The study aims to define a methodology to evaluate the optimal insulation thickness with reference to the annual energy balance, including both heating and cooling seasons, for different climatic zones, based on three real case studies. The reduction of the heating needs due to the insulation of walls in places with cold climates is a consolidated concept. However, the effects of a high level of insulation of the envelope on the cooling needs has not yet been deeply analysed.

Airborne port noise has historically suffered from a lack of regulatory assessment compared to other transport infrastructures. This has led to several complaints from citizens living in the urban areas surrounding ports, which is a very common situation, especially in countries facing the Mediterranean sea. Only in relatively recent years has an effort been made to improve this situation, which has resulted in a call for and financing of numerous international cooperation research projects, within the framework of programs such as EU FP7, H2020, ENPI-CBC MED, LIFE, and INTERREG.

Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) are aquatic microorganisms have the ability to biomineralize magnetosomes, which are membrane-enclosed magnetic nanoparticles. Magnetosomes are organized in a chain inside the MTB, allowing them to align with and traverse along the earth's magnetic field. Magnetosomes have several potential applications for targeted cancer therapy when isolated from the MTB, including magnetic hyperthermia, localized medication delivery, and tumour monitoring.

Maritime transport for both passengers and freight is continuously increasing and, consequently, the global attention toward its sustainability is growing. Ships offer advantages in terms of environmental impact compared to other transportation systems but the increasing traffic volume is expected to increase pollutants. Noise produced in port areas has been neglected for too long, until the INTERREG Maritime programme Italy-France 2014-2020 has brought to light how citizen complaints are emerging for some of the main ports in the Mediterranean.

Background: Over 1 billion people suffer from chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma, COPD, rhinitis and rhinosinusitis. They cause an enormous burden and are considered as major non-communicable diseases. Many patients are still uncontrolled and the cost of inaction is unacceptable.

Multidisciplinary assessment of patients with musical hallucinations, tinnitus and hearing loss.

Background: Although auditory hallucinations are considered a psychopathological phenomenon, musical hallucinations have been reported in individuals without psychosis but with auditory symptoms (tinnitus and/or hearing loss). Thus, a possible different cognitive functioning may be involved in musical hallucinations. The aim of the study was to characterize patients with tinnitus and musical hallucinations through a multidisciplinary assessment, allowing a better understanding of these concomitant phenomena.

Objective: To describe the neuropsychological profile of mild cognitive impairment subtypes (amnestic, non-amnestic and multiple-domain) of a clinical sample. Background: The CAMCOG is a brief neuropsychological battery designed to assess global cognitive function and ascertain the impairments that are required for the diagnosis of dementia. To date, the cut-off scores for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) have not been determined. A case of chromomycosis induced by Rhinocladiella aquaspersa is decribed in Falcon State, which is considered as the first case in Venezuela, and the fifth one in the whole world of this species of Rhinocladiella. The case was observed in a five year-old child from the south part of Falcon State. The child presented wounds of two years of duration, in his upper left limb.

We describe a case of Kartagener's syndrome observed in a woman with an intracranial meningioma and a normal axonemal structure. This finding confirms that ultrastructural defects of bronchial cilia are not always present in Kartagener's syndrome.

In the setting of stable effort angina a single-blind, randomized, cross-over study to evaluate the effects of gallopamil (GAL) and amlodipine (AML) on exercise tolerance and ischemic ST depression was conducted. Fifteen outpatients, 12 males and 3 females, aged 40-65 years (57 +/- 9), with documented coronary atherosclerosis and reproducible ST-segment depression on 2 consecutive baseline exercise stress tests, completed the study, which consisted of 4 periods: 1 and 3 placebo, 2 and 4 at random GAL (50 mg tid) and AML (10 mg/daily). At the end of each period a multistage treadmill exercise stress test (Bruce protocol) was performed.

A Pan-American 5-year study of fluconazole therapy for deep mycoses in the immunocompetent host. Pan-American Study Group.
