Leukemia is a prevalent cancer that severely affects children, and standard chemotherapy often leads to severe gastrointestinal symptoms and neutropenia. This study aimed to discover alternative treatments to prevent neutropenia in pediatric leukemia patients and minimize chemotherapy-related complications. This randomized, placebo-controlled trial was conducted on 52 children between the ages of 3 and 18 years who were suffering from acute leukemia and undergoing chemotherapy.

Assessing vulnerability of coastal aquifer to seawater intrusion using Convolutional Neural Network.

This study examined coastal aquifer vulnerability to seawater intrusion (SWI) in the Shiramin area in northwest Iran. Here, six types of hydrogeological data layers existing in the traditional GALDIT framework (TGF) were used to build one vulnerability map. Moreover, a modified traditional GALDIT framework (mod-TGF) was prepared by eliminating the data layer of aquifer type from the GALDIT model and adding the data layers of aquifer media and well density.

The rapid decline in both quality and availability of freshwater resources on our planet necessitates their thorough assessment to ensure sustainable usage. The growing demand for water in industrial, agricultural, and domestic sectors poses significant challenges to managing both surface and groundwater resources. This study tests and proposes a hybrid evaluation approach to determine Groundwater Quality Indices (GQIs) for irrigation (IRRI), seawater intrusion (SWI), and potability (POT), finalized to the spatial distribution of groundwater suitability involving water quality indicator along with hydrogeological and socio-economic factors.

Monitoring saliva compositions for non-invasive detection of diabetes using a colorimetric-based multiple sensor.

The increasing population of diabetic patients, especially in developing countries, has posed a serious risk to the health sector, so that the lack of timely diagnosis and treatment process of diabetes can lead to threatening complications for the human lifestyle. Here, a multiple sensor was fabricated on a paper substrate for rapid detection and controlling the progress of the diabetes disease. The proposed sensor utilized the sensing ability of porphyrazines, pH-sensitive dyes and silver nanoparticles in order to detect the differences in saliva composition of diabetic and non-diabetic patients.

In the present case-control study, 361 individuals with schizophrenia and 360 healthy individuals were included in the study.

An origami-based colorimetric sensor for detection of hydrogen peroxide and glucose using sericin capped silver nanoparticles.

The hydrogen peroxide (HO) measurement is considered highly important in industrial wastewater quality assessment, environmental protection, and disease detection. Here, a simple high-performance paper-based sensor is proposed for rapid and in situ detection of HO. To this end, 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine is embedded in the sensor to act as a color indicator, whose reaction with hydrogen peroxide is catalyzed by a silver nanozyme modified by sericin.

Cardioprotective effects of deferoxamine in acute and subacute cardiotoxicities of doxorubicin: a randomized clinical trial.

Background: Cardiotoxicity is a major concern following doxorubicin (DOX) use in the treatment of malignancies. We aimed to investigate whether deferoxamine (DFO) can prevent acute cardiotoxicity in children with cancer who were treated with DOX as part of their chemotherapy.

Results: Sixty-two newly-diagnosed pediatric cancer patients aged 2-18 years with DOX as part of their treatment regimens were assigned to three groups: group 1 (no intervention, n = 21), group II (Deferoxamine (DFO) 10 times DOX dose, n = 20), and group III (DFO 50 mg/kg, n = 21).
