As an international group of orthognathic surgeons, we believe the next big thing in orthognathic surgery will be a clinical and research focus on patient-oriented outcomes and improved quality of life. We expect to see advances in diagnosis and treatment planning, materials development, and patient management.

Pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (PVOD) and pulmonary capillary hemangiomatosis are rare types of histopathological substrates within the spectrum of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) with a very poor prognosis. They are characterized by a widespread fibroproliferative process of the small caliber veins and/or capillaries with sparing of the larger veins, resulting in a pre-capillary pulmonary hypertension phenotype. Clinical presentation is unspecific and similar to other PAH etiologies.

Unlabelled: Current food production methods in the United States (US) contribute to environmental degradation as well as food insecurity. Food production by means of community gardens has the potential to reduce the deleterious effects of current production methods. However, many community gardens face challenges that hinder their longevity, thereby reducing the likelihood of the support they might provide for environmentally sustainable food production and decreased food insecurity for community members.

The utilisation of seaweeds as feed supplements has been investigated for their potential to mitigate enteric methane emissions from ruminants. Enteric methane emissions are the primary source of direct greenhouse gas emissions in livestock and significantly contribute to anthropogenic methane emissions worldwide. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the nutritional role and the in vitro effect on cumulative gas and methane production of (native species) and (invasive species), two species of red algae from the Azorean Sea, as well as the ability to reduce biogas production when incubated with single pasture ( and ) as substrate.

Purpose: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is a frequently reported adverse event following orthognathic surgery. The aim of this work is to conduct a systematic review of the literature on the subject, and to discuss the role of maxillofacial surgeons and the steps that can be taken to prevent or control PONV in orthognathic surgery.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines, using the search strategy: (orthognathic AND (nausea OR vomiting)).

The median lingual foramen (MLF), which contains neurovascular bundles, is located in an area commonly considered safe for surgical procedures. However, published reports of severe complications after interventions in the mandibular symphysis area indicate the need for caution when approaching this region surgically. The aim of this study was to evaluate the vertical location of the MLF and the median lingual canal (MLC) by measuring the distances of these landmarks to the root apex of the lower central incisors (LCI) and to the menton cephalometric point (Me) on pre-orthognathic surgery cone beam computed tomography scans (N = 100).

Objective: We analyzed the quality and quantity of systematic reviews (SRs) of orthognathic surgery, the most frequently published topic in maxillofacial surgery.

Study Design: We searched the PubMed database for SRs of orthognathic surgery with no restriction on the language of publication date. We assessed the certainty of evidence presented according to the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocol and the Leiden Manifesto using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach.

Introduction: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality in connective tissue disease (CTD). Early detection and accurate diagnosis are essential for informing treatment decisions and prognosis in this setting. Clear guidance on CTD-ILD screening, however, is lacking.

Purpose: Correlate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) parameters at baseline with disease progression in nonidiopathic pulmonary fibrosis interstitial lung disease (ILD).

Materials And Methods: Prospective observational cohort study, in which patients with non-idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis ILD underwent MRI at baseline (1.5 T).

Quantifying entericCH from grazing systems is a challenge for all regions of the world, especially when cattle feed mostly on pasture throughout the year, as pasture quality varies with the seasons. In this study, we examine the influence of seasonality on enteric methane emissions in the Azores, considering the most recent IPCC updates, to minimise errors in estimating enteric methane emissions in this region. For this purpose, samples of corn and grass silage, different types of concentrate, and pasture were collected throughout the year, and their nutritional value and digestibility were determined according to standard conventional methods.

Compared with the ancestral C3 state, C4 photosynthesis occurs at higher rates with improved water and nitrogen use efficiencies. In both C3 and C4 plants, rates of photosynthesis increase with light intensity and are maximal around midday. We determined that in the absence of light or temperature fluctuations, photosynthesis in maize (Zea mays) peaks in the middle of the subjective photoperiod.

Objective: The aim of the study is to quantify observer agreement in the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) classification of inflammatory or fibrotic interstitial lung disease (ILD).

Methods: Our study is a preliminary analysis of a larger prospective cohort. The MRI images of 18 patients with ILD (13 females; mean age, 65 years) were acquired in a 1.

Reversing climate change requires broad, cohesive, and strategic plans for the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions from animal farming. The implementation and evaluation of such plans demand accurate and accessible methods for monitoring on-field CH concentration in eructating breath. Therefore, this paper describes a longitudinal study over six months, aiming to test a protocol using a laser methane detector (LMD) to monitor CH emissions in semi-extensive dairy farm systems.

Article Synopsis
  • * A comprehensive analysis was performed, yielding 84 articles from various countries, focusing on treatment options and management strategies for these infections.
  • * Key findings suggest that surgical intervention and antibiotic treatment are crucial; complications are notably higher in immunocompromised patients, while diabetes mellitus is not a reliable predictor of infection prognosis.

The inclusion of essential oils (EOs) in the diet of ruminants is one of the strategies used to alter ruminal microbial fermentation, improving feed efficiency, while simultaneously reducing enteric methane (CH) production. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of three new EOs from plants exotic to the Azores, (PU) (HG) and (CJ), on biogas production kinetics and CH production. Three levels of EOs (40, 80, and 120 μL/g dry matter (DM) were added to the basal diet to evaluate ruminal fermentation using the gas production technique.

This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional potential of unconventional plants: , , , , , and , as an alternative roughage for ruminants. Chemical composition, gross energy, in vitro gas production, kinetics, and digestibility of dry matter and organic matter in vitro were determined for each species. The obtained results showed variations between the studied forages concerning crude protein, and the different fiber fractions: NDF, ADF, and ADL The with a relative food value of 92.
