This article reviews the role of high-resolution sonography as an imaging modality for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with parathyroid disease. Included is a discussion of sonographic anatomy and technique, disease processes of the parathyroid glands and their sonographic appearances, preoperative imaging, and the use of sonography as a guide for diagnostic and therapeutic intervention in parathyroid disease.

Cecal pathology is commonly encountered and may represent a diagnostic challenge in patients with either acute or chronic clinical presentations. Although appendicitis accounts for the majority of surgical conditions presenting with right lower quadrant pain, readers should be aware of the broad spectrum of cecal pathologies and characteristic CT findings, which can be useful in establishing the correct diagnosis.

Background: Computed tomography (CT) scans of the abdomen and pelvis may predict which patients with ovarian carcinoma can undergo optimal cytoreduction at primary surgery. Previous studies have demonstrated that patients with ovarian carcinoma had optimal cytoreduction rates ranging from 50-60%. The authors sought to determine whether these findings applied to a surgical practice with a higher rate of optimal debulking.
