Clinical presentation, outcome, and prognostic markers in patients with intravascular large B-cell lymphoma, a lymphoma study association (LYSA) retrospective study.

Background: Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (lVLBCL) is a very rare type of large B-cell lymphoma.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on IVLBCL patients treated from 2000 to 2016 in LYSA cooperative group centers.

Results: Sixty-five patients were identified in 23 centers.

Anticoagulant Activity of Sulfated Ulvan Isolated from the Green Macroalga .

(1) Background: Brown and red algal sulfated polysaccharides have been widely described as anticoagulant agents. However, data on green algae, especially on the genus, are limited. This study aimed at isolating ulvan from the green macroalga using an acid- and solvent-free procedure, and investigating the effect of sulfate content on the anticoagulant activity of this polysaccharide.

FLT3 ligand plasma levels have no impact on outcomes after allotransplant in acute leukemia.

Objective: This study was designed to assess the impact on outcomes of early soluble Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 ligand concentrations (sFLc) in patients receiving an allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Methods: This was a prospective monocentric study including all allo-HSCT patients included in the previous FLAM/FLAL study (Peterlin et al., 2019).

Influence of Donor Type (Sibling versus Matched Unrelated Donor versus Haploidentical Donor) on Outcomes after Clofarabine-Based Reduced-Intensity Conditioning Allograft for Myeloid Malignancies.

Clofarabine-based reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) regimens are well-established schedules for allograft in patients with myeloid malignancies. A retrospective study was conducted including all adults allografted in our department with such a regimen and disease with the aim to assess whether or not the donor type (matched sibling [MSD], matched unrelated [MUD], or haploidentical [haplo]) impacted outcomes. Between October 2009 and February 2018, 118 patients met the inclusion criteria.

Pomalidomide, cyclophosphamide, and dexamethasone for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma patients in a real-life setting: a single-center retrospective study.

Pomalidomide dexamethasone is a standard of care for relapsed multiple myeloma (MM) patients who received at least two prior lines of therapy, including both lenalidomide and proteasome inhibitors (PI). We report here a real-life single-center series of 49 consecutive patients with relapsed and refractory MM treated with the triplet pomalidomide cyclophosphamide dexamethasone (PCD) combination. The median of prior lines of therapy was 3 and all patients were previously exposed to proteasome inhibitors and lenalidomide.

Single-agent daratumumab in very advanced relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma patients: a real-life single-center retrospective study.

The anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody daratumumab is approved as a single agent for the treatment of patients with relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) who have received at least three prior lines of therapy, including a proteasome inhibitor (PI) and an immunomodulatory agent (IMID), or who are double refractory to a PI and an IMID. To date, no real-life data on the efficacy and tolerance of daratumumab in this setting are available. We report here the results of a single-center series of 41 RRMM patients treated with single-agent daratumumab outside clinical trials.

Cutaneous melanoma has a high capacity to metastasize and significant resistance to conventional therapeutic protocols, which makes its treatment difficult. The combination of conventional drugs with cytostatic molecules of low toxicity has been shown to be an interesting alternative for sensitization of tumor cells to chemotherapy. In this study, we evaluated the effect of bixin, an abundant apocarotenoid present in Bixa orellana, on the sensitization of human melanoma cells (A2058) to dacarbazine treatment, an anticancer agent clinically used for the therapy of metastatic melanoma.

The impact of early fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET-CT) status on survival after allogeneic transplantation for lymphoma is poorly reported. This retrospective study included all adult Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) or non-Hodgkin lymphoma(NHL) patients (>18 years old) who benefited from FDG PET-CT before (within 1 month) and/or early (+3 months and within +6 to 9 months) after allogeneic stem cell transplantation in our institution between 2005 and 2015 and who were still without documented progression or relapse at the time of the FDG PET-CT. All FDG PET-CT were reviewed by a nuclear medicine expert in hematology and restaged according to the Deauville scale.

Mimachlamys varia is a sub-littoral bivalve encountered from Norway to the Mediterranean Sea, which lives mostly byssally attached to rocks. During the low tide period, M. varia individuals, located highest on the shore, may experience short time of aerial exposure and face a low availability of oxygen.

BH3-mimetic toolkit guides the respective use of BCL2 and MCL1 BH3-mimetics in myeloma treatment.

BH3 mimetics are promising drugs for hematologic malignancies that trigger cell death by promoting the release of proapoptotic BCL2 family members from antiapoptotic proteins. Multiple myeloma is considered to be a disease dependent mainly on MCL1 for survival, based mostly on studies using cell lines. We used a BH3-mimetic toolkit to study the dependency on BCL2, BCLXL, or MCL1 in malignant plasma cells from 60 patients.

Synthesis of 2-Mercapto-(2-Oxoindolin-3-Ylidene)Acetonitriles from 3-(4-Chloro-5-1,2,3-Dithiazol-5-Ylidene)Indolin-2-ones.

Alkylidene oxindoles are important functional moieties and building blocks in pharmaceutical and synthetic chemistry. Our interest in biologically active compounds focused our studies on the synthesis of novel oxindoles, bearing on the exocyclic double bond at the C8, CN, and S groups. Extending the potential applications of Appel’s salt, we developed a new synthetic approach by investigating the reactions of C5-substituted 2-oxindoles with 4,5-dichloro-1,2,3-dithiazolium chloride (Appel’s salt) to give original ()-3-(4-chloro-5-1,2,3-dithiazol-5-ylidene)indolin-2-one derivatives, and new 2-mercapto-(2-oxoindolin-3-ylidene)acetonitriles via a dithiazole ring-opening reaction.

Post-treatment positron emission tomography-computed tomography is highly predictive of outcome in Plasmablastic lymphoma.

Purpose: Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is a rare variant of diffuse large B cell lymphomas (DLBCL) clinically characterized by a poorer prognostic. Few clinical and imaging data are available and derived from pooled case reports and small series. The aim of the study was to evaluate the FDG avidity at baseline and the utility of 18-Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron-emission-tomography/computed-tomography (PET/CT) for staging and response assessment.

Safety of ixazomib for the treatment of multiple myeloma.

Despite a major positive impact of proteasome inhibitors (PI), such as bortezomib and carfilzomib, on the survival of patients with multiple myeloma (MM) over the last few years, their use in clinical practice is limited by the development of drug resistance, significant side-effects or constraining administration schedules. Ixazomib is the first, and for now the only, oral PI, which was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2015 and by the European Medicines Agency in 2016. Areas covered: In this review, we provide an overview of the preclinical and early-phase studies of ixazomib used as single-agent and in combination.

Identification of ace inhibitory cryptides in Tilapia protein hydrolysate by UPLC-MS/MS coupled to database analysis.

An ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time of flight mass spectrometry method was developed and applied to identify short angiotensin-I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory cryptides in Tilapia (Oreochromis Niloticus) protein hydrolyzate. A database was created with previously identified ACE-inhibitory di- and tripeptides and the lowest molecular weight fraction of Tilapia hydrolysate was analysed for coincidences. Only VW and VY were identified.

Pilot production of ulvans from Ulva sp. and their effects on hyaluronan and collagen production in cultured dermal fibroblasts.

Ulvans from Ulva sp. were tested for their potential cosmetic properties on human dermal fibroblasts. The crude ulvans (ULVAN-01, 57kDa), extracted using a patented acid- and solvent-free process, were subjected to depolymerization using ion exchange resin to obtain a low molecular weight ulvan (ULVAN-DEP, 4kDa).

Improved racemate resolution of pentan-2-ol and trans-(Z)-cyclooct-5-ene-1,2-diol by lipase catalysis.

Lipases are important catalysts in chiral synthesis due to their wide substrate recognition combined with a high stereoselectivity. We demonstrate here that the state, free or immobilized, of Candida antarctica lipase B (CaLB) affects enantioselectivity and also alters the temperature dependancy of the enzyme. This indicates that CaLB undergoes various conformations induced by its interaction with the different immobilization supports studied.

UPLC-MSE profiling of Phytoplankton metabolites: application to the identification of pigments and structural analysis of metabolites in Porphyridium purpureum.

A fast and high-resolution UPLC-MSE analysis was used to identify phytoplankton pigments in an ethanol extract of Porphyridium purpureum (Pp) devoid of phycobiliproteins. In a first step, 22 standard pigments were analyzed by UPLC-MSE to build a database including retention time and accurate masses of parent and fragment ions. Using this database, seven pigments or derivatives previously reported in Pp were unequivocally identified: β,β-carotene, chlorophyll a, zeaxanthin, chlorophyllide a, pheophorbide a, pheophytin a, and cryptoxanthin.

Characterization of the colistin (polymyxin E1 and E2) biosynthetic gene cluster.

Colistin is a mixture of polymyxin E1 and E2, bactericidal pentacationic lipopeptides used to treat infections caused by Gram-negative pathogens such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Industrial production of colistin is obtained by a fermentation process of the natural producer Paenibacillus polymyxa var colistinus. NonRibosomal peptide synthetases (NRPS) coding the biosynthesis of polymyxins A, B and P have been recently described, rendering thereof the improvement of their production possible.
