It has been established that essential amino acids (EAA) regulate protein synthesis in mammary epithelial cells by rapidly altering the phosphorylation state of translation factors. However, the long-term transcriptional response to EAA supply has been investigated much less. Eight transcription factors were selected as candidate mediators of EAA effects on mammary cell function via the amino acid response (ATF4, ATF6), mitogen-activated protein kinase (JUN, FOS, EGR1), and mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (MYC, HIF1A, SREBF1).

An unexpected phosphine-catalyzed controllable three-component domino reaction involving [1 + 2 + 2] annulation and [1 + 2 + 2]/[3 + 2] sequential annulation reaction of 2-arylmethylidene cyanoacetates/malononitriles with Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) carbonates has been developed. A broad range of densely functionalized cyclopentanes and diquinanes bearing five or four consecutive stereogenic centers, including two all-carbon quaternary stereocenters, were smoothly acquired in moderate to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions from readily available materials. Moreover, this divergent transformation enables the simultaneous generation of three or four new C-C bonds and one or two carbocyclic rings in only one step.

Electroencephalography (EEG) reflects brain activity and is crucial for diagnosing states such as coma and brain-death. However, the clinical interpretation of EEG signals faces challenges due to the patients' faint brain activity and the complexities of the intensive care unit environment, further compounded by the absence of quantified standards for signal analysis. This study developed an improved denoise method tailored to the characteristics of Coma/Brain-Death EEG signals.

An ectopic kidney is a rare congenital defect that is often asymptomatic, but can be incidentally discovered during imaging examinations. Moreover, the morphological characteristics and laboratory features of ectopic kidneys are nonspecific, which may lead to misleading diagnostic approaches, particularly when there are additional factors, such as infection, obstruction, or other anomalies. A 43-year-old female presented with a mass in the left adnexal area.

Article Synopsis
  • - Solid-state defects, like NV centers in diamond, can be used for quantum sensing and simulation, but their usefulness is often limited by fixed defect density and increased decoherence when trying to enhance interactions.
  • - The research shows a method to control spin concentration by transporting charges, specifically pumping electrons to modulate the charge state of defects without significantly affecting decoherence.
  • - By developing advanced imaging and detection techniques, the team successfully demonstrated a two-fold increase in spin defect concentration, allowing for better exploration of many-body physics and hybrid charge-spin systems.

The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI), which typically occurs in lattices without space inversion symmetry, can also be induced in a highly symmetric lattice by local symmetry breaking due to any lattice defect. We recently presented an experimental study of polarized small angle neutron scattering (SANS) on the nanocrystalline soft magnet Vitroperm (FeSiBNbCu), where the interface between the FeSi nanoparticles and the amorphous magnetic matrix serves as such a defect. The SANS cross sections exhibited the polarization-dependent asymmetric term originating from the DMI.

The growing demands of remote detection and an increasing amount of training data make distributed machine learning under communication constraints a critical issue. This work provides a communication-efficient quantum algorithm that tackles two traditional machine learning problems, the least-square fitting and softmax regression problems, in the scenario where the dataset is distributed across two parties. Our quantum algorithm finds the model parameters with a communication complexity of O(log_{2}(N)/ε), where N is the number of data points and ε is the bound on parameter errors.
