Prevalence and factors associated with overweight and obesity in selected health areas in a rural health district in Cameroon: a cross-sectional analysis.

Background: Overweight and obesity are major public health problems worldwide, with projections suggesting a proportional increase in the number of affected individuals in developing countries by the year 2030. Evidence-based preventive strategies are needed to reduce the burden of overweight and obesity in developing countries. We assessed the prevalence of, and factors associated with overweight and obesity in selected health areas in West Cameroon.

Prescription of pharmacotherapy and blood pressure control among hypertensive outpatients in two semi-urban hospitals in Cameroon: a cross-sectional study.

Introduction: several international guidelines are available on drug treatment for hypertension, but the control of hypertension remains very poor in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). We investigated the commonly prescribed antihypertensive drugs and their association with blood pressure (BP) control in adult Cameroonians.

Methods: we consecutively recruited hypertensive outpatients attending the Buea and Limbe Regional Hospitals (southwest region of Cameroon).

Sub-Saharan Africa has the largest number of individuals leaving with HIV/AIDS. However, much is still unknown as regards HIV/AIDS treatment outcomes in resource-constrained settings. The Cameroon Central Africa International Epidemiologic Databases to Evaluate AIDS-Cameroon (Cameroon CA-IeDEA) collaboration is a unique opportunity to explore long-term outcomes from a large HIV cohort and generate massive data that can show trends, inform HIV care and provide insight on the way forward.
