This paper presents the novel development of a shape memory polymer foam based on polymer-polymer nanocomposites. Herein, polylactide (PLA)/biosourced polyamide (PA) foams are fabricated by in situ fibrillation of polymer blends and a subsequent supercritical CO foaming technique. In this system, PLA serves as a shape memory polymer to endow this foam with a shape memory effect (SME), and in situ generated PA nanofibers are employed to reinforce the PLA cell walls and provide an additional permanent phase.

In situ-generated nanofibrillar polymer-polymer composites are excellent candidates for the production of polymer materials, with high mechanical and SME properties. Their special feature is the high degree of dispersion of the in situ-generated nanofibers and the ability to form entangled nanofiber structures with high aspect ratios through an end-to-end coalescence process, which makes it possible to effectively reinforce the polymer matrix and, in many cases, increase its ductility. The substantial interfacial area, created by the in situ formed fiber/matrix morphology, significantly strengthens the interfacial interactions, which are crucial for shape fixation and shape recovery.

The large inner surface of porous silicon (pSi) not only provides unique opportunities for introducing various foreign materials into the open pores, but is also responsible for a lot of processes during the pSi cathode polarization. PSi surface and contact effects are considered in the article. The space charge layer induced by both the surface states and the double electrical layer in the solution is shown to have a decisive influence on the electrical conductivity of the silicon skeleton in the pSi layer.

The α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR) mediates signaling in the central nervous system and cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathways. Ivermectin is a positive allosteric modulator of a full-length α7nAChR and an agonist of the α7nAChR construct containing transmembrane (TMD) and intracellular (ICD) domains, but structural insights of the binding have not previously been determined. Here, combining nuclear magnetic resonance as a primary experimental tool with Rosetta comparative modeling and molecular dynamics simulations, we have revealed details of ivermectin binding to the α7nAChR TMD + ICD and corresponding structural changes in an ivermectin-induced desensitized state.

α-Synuclein (α-syn) proteinopathy in the neurons of the Enteric Nervous System (ENS) is proposed to have a critical role in Parkinson's disease (PD) onset and progression. Interestingly, the ENS of the human appendix harbors abundant α-syn and appendectomy has been linked to a decreased risk and delayed onset of PD, suggesting that the appendix may influence PD pathology. Common marmosets and rhesus macaques lack a distinct appendix (a narrow closed-end appendage with a distinct change in diameter at the junction with the cecum), yet the cecal microanatomy of these monkeys is similar to the human appendix.
