Article Synopsis
  • Diabetic neuropathy is a common complication of diabetes that often leads to conditions like Charcot foot, characterized by local osteoporosis and vascular calcification in the lower extremities.
  • Many patients with Charcot foot experience accelerated bone metabolism and imbalances in calcium and phosphorus levels, impacting their overall bone health.
  • The review emphasizes the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment of vitamin D and mineral imbalances to manage complications in diabetes patients effectively, particularly through MRI for early detection of Charcot's foot.

The number of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) has been progressively increasing worldwide over the past decades, and many international organizations consider DM as a public health emergency of the 21st century.Critical limb ischemia (CLI) is the most severe stage of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in DM and is characterized by a high risk of limb loss without revascularization. Traditional treatment tactics include open and endovascular revascularization surgical techniques.

: In adults, 150 to 300 min a week of moderate-intensity physical activity is the recommended daily level to maintain or improve fitness. In subjects with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), reductions in daily physical activity (DPA) amounts are related to clinically significant outcomes. In this study, we ascertain whether or not COPD patients, when clustered into active (DPA ≥ 30 min a day, 5 days a week) and inactive (DPA < 30 min a day, 5 days a week), may differ in exercise capacity, as assessed by a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET).

Focusing on the molecular docking results, a series of 3,4-diarylisoxazoles, analogues of Combretastatin A4, bearing various substituents at the fifth position of the isoxazole ring and pharmacophore groups bioisosteric to methoxy substituent at ring B, were synthesized in good yields and high regioselectivity. Depending on the substituent at C5, three approaches were chosen for the construction of isoxazole ring, including nitrosation of gem-dihalocyclopropanes, nitrile oxide synthesis, and difluoromethoxylation of isoxazolone to afford 5-haloisoxazoles, 5-unsubstituted isoxazoles, and 5-difluoromethoxyisoxazoles, respectively. Isoxazoles and showed selective cytotoxicity and antitubulin inhibition properties , with pharmacodynamic profiles closely related to that of CA-4.

The design of studies on the immune system does not have gender peculiarities, but the information about the higher frequency of pathology of the female reproductive system in the presence of immunodeficiency condition determines the purpose of this study, namely, to identify the features of immune status in the presence of secondary immunodeficiency of infectious (i.e., HIV infection, AIDS stage) and non-infectious origin (alcohol dependence syndrome) and their combination in women of reproductive age.

Fish speciation was accompanied by changes in the urogenital system anatomy. In evolutionarily modern Teleostei, male reproductive tracts are fully separated from the excretory system, while in evolutionarily ancient Chondrostei and Holostei, the excretory and reproductive tracts are not separated. Sturgeon post-testicular sperm maturation (PTSM) occurring as a result of sperm/urine mixing is phenomenologically well described, while, in holosteans, functional intimacy of seminal ducts with kidney ducts and the existence of PTSM still need to be addressed.

The fragmentation reaction of the radical cations of 3-aryl-5-fluoroisoxazoles formed via EI-MS is described. A new rearrangement accompanied by fluorine atom migration is discovered. A mechanistic rationale for the rearrangement supporting the existence of a fluorinated benzocyclopropenyl cation was proposed based on the experimental data and quantum chemical calculations.

Bacterial infections are one of the leading causes of death worldwide. In the case of topical bacterial infections such as wound infections, silver (Ag) has historically been one of the most widely used antibacterials. However, scientific publications have demonstrated the adverse effects of silver on human cells, ecotoxicity and insufficient antibacterial effect for the complete elimination of bacterial infections.

Objective: The aim: To analyze the metabolic status of patients with coronary artery disease and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease depending on body mass index.

Patients And Methods: Materials and methods: The cohort of patients included 107 people with coronary artery disease (CAD), nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and over¬weight (n=56) or obesity (n=51). In all patients glucose, insulin, HbA1c, HOMA-IR, hsCRP, transaminases, creatinine, urea, uric acid, lipid profile, anthropometric parameters and ultrasound elastography were measured.

Objective: The aim of the study is to increase the effectiveness of diagnostics of microhemocirculatory changes in periodontal tissues in anatomical and functional disorders of the mucogingival complex, based on the use of the method of discriminant analysis of ultrasound opplerography.

Material And Methods: 187 patients aged 18-44 years (young age according to WHO) were examined without concomitant somatic pathology with various variants of anatomical structures of the mucous-gingival complex, which included an assessment of blood flow in periodontal tissues by ultrasound dopplerography at rest and during a functional test of the tension of the soft tissues of the upper and lower lip, cheeks using an opt-out. After qualitative and quantitative analysis of dopplerograms, an automated assessment of the microhemocirculation of the studied structures was performed, identifying differences between groups using step-by-step discriminant analysis with the study of several variables.

Due to the high prevalence of infectious diseases and their concurrent outbreaks, there is a high interest in developing novel materials with antimicrobial properties. Antibacterial and antiviral properties of a range of metal-based nanoparticles (NPs) are a promising means to fight airborne diseases caused by viruses and bacteria. The aim of this study was to test antimicrobial metals and metal-based nanoparticles efficacy against three viruses, namely influenza A virus (H1N1; A/WSN/1933) and coronaviruses TGEV and SARS-CoV-2; and two bacteria, and .

Nanoparticles with SiO2 coating were synthesized to have a cubic iron core. These were found to have saturation magnetization very close to the highest possible value of any iron-containing nanoparticles and the bulk iron saturation magnetization. The in vitro toxicology studies show that they are highly biocompatible and possess better MRI contrast agent potential than iron oxide NPs.

Nanotoxicology and nanomedicine are two sub-disciplines of nanotechnology focusing on the phenomena, mechanisms, and engineering at the nano-bio interface. For the better part of the past three decades, these two disciplines have been largely developing independently of each other. Yet recent breakthroughs in microbiome research and the current COVID-19 pandemic demonstrate that holistic approaches are crucial for solving grand challenges in global health.

  • Neurotrophic factors (NTFs) help neurons grow and survive, showing promise in potentially curing neurodegenerative diseases by regenerating lost nerve cells rather than just treating symptoms.
  • NTFs have difficulty crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB), requiring invasive surgeries for direct delivery, prompting a need for more efficient, non-invasive systemic delivery methods.
  • Nanoparticles (NPs) can stabilize NTFs and facilitate their transport through the BBB, with strategies like functionalizing NPs with specific ligands to enhance their recognition and passage into the brain.

In most fish exhibiting external fertilization, spermatozoa become motile after release into water, triggered by differences between intracellular and extracellular conditions such as osmotic pressure, ion composition, and pH. The rapid change in osmolarity initiating spermatozoon motility induces osmotic pressure, resulting in active water movement across the cell membrane. Mechanisms of ion and water transport across the plasma membrane and cell volume regulation are important in maintaining structure and functional integrity of the cell.
