View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Procalcitonin (PCT) is a blood marker used to help diagnose bacterial infections and guide antibiotic treatment. PCT testing was widely used/adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK.
Objectives: Primary: to measure the difference in length of early (during first 7 days) antibiotic prescribing between patients with COVID-19 who did/did not have baseline PCT testing during the first wave of the pandemic.
Here, we characterized the dynamics of sleep spindles, focusing on their damping, which we estimated using a metric called oscillatory-Quality (o-Quality), derived by fitting an autoregressive model to electrophysiological signals, recorded from the cortex in mice. The o-Quality of sleep spindles correlates weakly with their amplitude, shows marked laminar differences and regional topography across cortical regions, reflects the level of synchrony within and between cortical networks, is strongly modulated by sleep-wake history, reflects the degree of sensory disconnection, and correlates with the strength of coupling between spindles and slow waves. As most spindle events are highly localized and not detectable with conventional low-density recording approaches, o-Quality thus emerges as a valuable metric that allows us to infer the spread and dynamics of spindle activity across the brain and directly links their spatiotemporal dynamics with local and global regulation of brain states, sleep regulation, and function.

This study evaluated the incidence of safety events and compared time to first serious adverse event (SAE) between a rituximab cohort and a cohort treated with non-rituximab therapies in a real-life setting.
Methods: Rituximab surveillance study in vasculitis was a retrospective observational study of patients with AAV who received rituximab (MabThera) or other treatments between 2003 and 2017 at a specialist vasculitis clinic.
Introduction: Relapses in ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) increase the incidence of end-organ damage and their prevention requires prolonged immunosuppressive therapy.
