Annuloplasty should always accompany mitral valve repair in order to achieve proper annular remodeling and stabilization. Numerous types of annuloplasty rings-that differ from rigid to semi-rigid and flexible devices, from complete to partial, and from flat to saddle-shaped rings-are clinically available. A deeper understanding of mitral valve function, in conjunction with several recent studies, suggest it is advisable to prefer annuloplasty rings that mimic the physiological mitral annulus shape and three-dimensional (3D) dynamic changes in order to reduce haemodynamic stress on valve components and optimize leaflet coaptation, perhaps improving valve repair durability too.

Objective: Lichen sclerosus is a chronic, inflammatory, progressive skin disease predominantly affecting anogenital areas. Vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) is one of the most common conditions treated in vulvar clinics; most patients report distressing symptoms of itching, burning, stinging, and pain (particularly during or after sexual intercourse). A preliminary, prospective, single-center study was performed to investigate the efficacy of hyaluronan hybrid cooperative complex (HCC) comprising high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid to treat menopausal women with VLS.

Background: Brooke-Spiegler syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the continuous development of multiple benign skin appendage tumors. It is treated usually by repeated standard surgery. Here, we present a case study where electrochemotherapy (ECT) with bleomycin was used as an effective alternative approach in treating advanced dermal cylindromatosis of the head and neck in a patient with Brooke-Spiegler syndrome.

Background: Our study aimed to identify a new cut-off for febrile seizure (FS) with a good prognosis, thereby replacing the 15 min described in the standard definition of simple febrile seizure (SFS).

Methods: Our study was a retrospective observational study (from January 2018 to December 2018) on children admitted to the Pediatric emergency room of the Santobono-Pausilipon Hospital, Naples, Italy, Pediatric Unit of Latina, Rome, Italy, and Policlinico-Vittorio-Emanuele University Hospital, Catania, Italy, for fever, which developed SFS during the hospitalization. All included patients had their seizures classified as SFS according to the international criteria for epilepsy.

Background: Sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy in cutaneous melanoma patients evaluates the regional draining basin for occult micrometastatic disease. Occasionally, nonidentification of SLN impairs the acquisition of this important prognostic factor.

Objectives: To investigate the outcomes of melanoma patients with negative lymphoscintigraphic findings and patients who underwent SLN biopsy from 2004 to 2015 ( n  = 1200) were retrospectively reviewed for tumor characteristics and clinical outcomes.

Background: Lichen sclerosus is a chronic relapsing inflammatory dermatosis with a predilection for anogenital skin in 85%-98% of cases and is more prevalent in women (3%) than in men (> 0.07%).

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate gender differences in clinical presentation and therapeutic response to treatment with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), an emerging innovative strategy for LS.

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global pandemic of Covid-19 on 11 March 2020. The lockdown caused a lifestyle changes: an increase in the use of mobile media devices (MMDs), sleep and psychiatric disorders, incorrect habits regarding food and physical activities. We investigate prevalence of admission for seizures at our emergency department (ED), during Italian lockdown, comparing with that of the same period of the previous year (2019), and the relationship with some lifestyle changes.

Kaposi sarcoma (KS) remains a relevant malignancy in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients with a non-standardized management; despite past suggestions that ritonavir-boosted protease inhibitor (bPI)-based regimens could be preferable, no combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) regimen was demonstrated to outperform the others and the impact of new drugs, drug classes or paradigms was never investigated nor proven better than previous therapeutic regimes. In order to do this, we retrospectively collected data regarding HIV-infected patients with a diagnosis of KS last seen in six Italian centers after 1 January 2013. A total of 104 KS cases in 99 patients was analyzed for 945.

Skin malignancies of the head and neck inflict significant structural, functional, and cosmetic burdens upon those affected. We retrospectively addressed electrochemotherapy anti-tumour efficacy in head and neck skin cancer patients who were not suitable for standard treatments. Scars' physical characteristics and aesthetics were evaluated using validated scar assessment scales.

Background: Cutaneous metastases represent a therapeutic challenge. An increasing body of experience suggests that electrochemotherapy (ECT) provides effective tumor control, although its evidence basis should be strengthened.

Methods: This prospective, multicenter, observational study enrolled patients with superficial metastases, who underwent ECT at 10 centers between 2008 and 2013.

Background: Angiosarcoma is an aggressive vascular neoplasm with a high propensity for local recurrence. Electrochemotherapy is an emerging skin-directed therapy, exerting prominent cytotoxic activity, and antivascular effects. Its efficacy in angiosarcoma has not been investigated.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is an uncommon cutaneous sarcoma with high recurrence rate. Radical surgery is the treatment of choice, although in cosmetically-sensitive areas such as the head and neck, this option is often not pursued. Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is a minimal invasive anti-tumor modality which is increasingly being used to treat skin metastases from different malignancies.

Background: The management of breast cancer (BC) skin metastases represents a therapeutic challenge. Electrochemotherapy (ECT) combines the administration of bleomycin with temporary permeabilization induced by locally administered electric pulses. Preliminary experience with ECT in BC patients is encouraging.

Background: Over the past several years the incidence of cutaneous melanoma has rapidly increased. This tumor develops often in-transit metastases that significantly reduce patient survival at 5 years. To improve prognosis and quality of life in patients with melanoma metastases, a mini invasive procedure like electrochemotherapy (ECT) is adopted to remove superficial tissue lesions.

Radiation recall dermatitis is an acute, rare skin reaction confined to previously irradiated areas that can be triggered by chemotherapeutic drugs (generally doxorubicin and taxanes), which are administrated after radiotherapy. We describe this case report to discuss the timing of the different choice of treatments of progressive Kaposis's sarcoma (KS) disease. KS, the neoplastic disease associated with HHV-8 infection, is still the most commonly diagnosed malignancy in HIV-1 patients, even if its incidence dramatically declined in the highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) era.

The present prospective study was aimed at evaluating the long-term efficacy of local electrochemotherapy (ECT) with the intravenous administration of bleomycin, on disease progression and viral activity in classic Kaposi's sarcoma (cKS), a vascular tumor related to human herpes virus-8 infection. Eighteen patients affected by isolate or multiple cutaneous lesions, refractory to conventional treatments, although in the absence of visceral involvement, were enrolled in a study. Follow-up visits were performed after 4 weeks and every 6 months for up to 48 months.
