Purpose: Uveitis-Glaucoma-Hyphema (UGH) syndrome results from contact between the intraocular lens (IOL) and the iris or ciliary body, leading to uveal structure erosion and blood-aqueous barrier breakdown. Treatment involves various drugs, with IOL removal often being necessary. Diagnosis relies on clinical signs, but imaging techniques like ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) or anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) are crucial.

Article Synopsis
  • - Uveitis is rare in children and hard to diagnose and treat, with few studies available on its epidemiology in this age group and limited data from developed countries.
  • - Anterior uveitis is the most common form globally, particularly in Western regions where juvenile idiopathic arthritis is prevalent, while intermediate uveitis often lacks links to systemic diseases.
  • - In contrast, posterior uveitis and panuveitis are more common in low- and middle-income countries due to higher rates of infectious diseases and conditions like Behçet and Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada diseases, although improvements in diagnosis have led to a decrease in idiopathic uveitis cases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify key factors affecting relapse risk in noninfectious uveitis patients after tapering off adalimumab following remission.
  • Involving 328 patients, the research found a 39.6% relapse rate, with younger patients showing a significantly higher risk and a quicker taper increasing the likelihood of recurrence.
  • Recommendations suggest considering age, race, and duration of remission when tapering adalimumab, with a slower tapering schedule preferred to minimize relapse chances.

Background: The results of preoperative and 1-year postoperative measurements in aesthetic breast surgery were outlined in chart form in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2020. Measurements were performed preoperatively and postoperatively, but the authors concentrated on 1-year follow-up because it was generally accepted as the minimum time to define a stable surgical result. Extensive statistical analysis was outlined in the previous paper.

Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) allows the explore not only the anterior chamber but also the front part of the vitreous cavity. Our cross-sectional single-centre study investigated whether AS-OCT can distinguish between vitreous involvement due to vitreoretinal lymphoma (VRL) and vitritis in uveitis. We studied AS-OCT images from 28 patients (11 with biopsy-proven VRL and 17 with differential diagnosis uveitis) using publicly available radiomics software written in MATLAB.

The choroid is the main part of the uvea, the vascular layer of the eye that lies between the retina and the sclera. The high vascular component of the choroid makes this structure susceptible to inflammation in multisystemic diseases, as well as the most common site of metastasis in the eye. Therefore, the choroid is involved in many pathological conditions, from uveitis to intraocular tumors.

Anterior uveitis has various causes, but the majority of cases are viral induced. The most common viral anterior uveitis etiology includes double-stranded DNA viruses of the family, including Alpha herpes virinae (herpes simplex 1 and 2 and varicella zoster virus), Beta herpesvirinae (cytomegalovirus), and less frequently, Gamma herpesvirinae (Epstein-Barr virus). In the last few decades, a growing body of evidence has correlated Fuchs uveitis etiology to the rubella virus from the family, which has a single-stranded RNA genome.

Primary vitreoretinal lymphoma (PVRL), a rare aggressive malignancy primarily involving the retina and/or the vitreous, is a major diagnostic challenge for clinicians (who commonly misdiagnose it as chronic uveitis) as well as for pathologists (for biological and technical reasons). Delays in diagnosis and treatment are responsible for visual impairments and life-threatening consequences, usually related to central nervous system involvement. The identification of lymphoma cells in vitreous fluid, obtained by vitrectomy, is required for diagnosis.

Background and Objectives: A cross-sectional single-center study was conducted to investigate the etiology in hypertensive anterior uveitis whose clinical features are not fully distinctive from cytomegalovirus or from rubella virus and to demonstrate the possible coexistence of both these viruses in causing anterior uveitis. Materials and Methods: The clinical charts of a cohort of patients with hypertensive viral anterior uveitis of uncertain origin consecutively seen in a single center from 2019 to 2022 were retrospectively reviewed; data on the clinical features, aqueous polymerase chain reaction, and antibody response to cytomegalovirus and rubella virus were collected. Results: Forty-three eyes of as many subjects with viral anterior uveitis of uncertain origin were included.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the effectiveness of cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) complicated by chronic anterior uveitis, comparing two treatment groups: those using non-biological drugs and those using biological drugs.
  • Results showed that the visual acuity significantly improved in both groups after surgery, with a greater improvement observed in the Biological Group (from 1.55 to 0.57 logMAR) compared to the Non-Biological Group (from 1.19 to 0.98 logMAR).
  • While the use of biological drugs led to better vision outcomes, the rates of postoperative complications were similar across both treatment groups, indicating that biological treatment does not significantly decrease the risk
