Background: The ocular vestibular myogenic potentials (oVEMP) can be elicited by monaural air-conducted sound stimulation, and are usually recorded from the contralateral eye. In clinical setting a binaural stimulation would save time and require less effort from the subjects.

The Authors present their experience in the treatment of prostatic obstruction with bladder neck incision (TUIP) performed under local anesthesia. An Hulbert 6 Fr endoscopic needle is used to infiltrate the prostatic area submitted to TUIP with 200 mg of Lidocaine 2%. Cardioventilatory responses to hypoxia, the O2 chemoreceptor stimulant sodium cyanide (NaCN), and intra-arterial injection of atropine, noradrenaline and DL-propranolol were investigated in the adriatic sturgeon. Hypoxia elicited a bradycardia and hyperventilation. 1 mg NaCN added to water entering the buccal cavity stimulated a transient bradycardia but intra-arterial infusion of 150 micrograms NaCN did not, indicating that hypoxic bradycardia is controlled by chemoreceptors sensitive only to water O2 levels.
