Artificial domestication during aquaculture practice has strongly shaped the physiological characteristics of Perca fluviatilis. Thus, revealing the genetic changes in domesticated P. fluviatilis will improve aquaculture and selective breeding.

The clinical outcomes for chordomas in the cranial base and spine: A single center experience.

Owing to the special growth pattern of chordomas and the limited treatment options currently available, the treatment of chordoma still remains difficult. In this study, we hope to further clarify the relationship between surgical treatment and radiotherapy of chordoma and disease progression.All patients with a primary histopathological diagnosis of clival or spinal chordomas recorded in our institution between 1976 and 2017 were examined.

First familial limb-girdle muscular dystrophy 2L in China: Clinical, imaging, pathological, and genetic features.

Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy 2L (LGMD2L) is mainly characterized by late adult onset, atrophy of proximal muscles, chronic progressive and asymmetric weakness, accompanied by increased creatine kinase (CK) levels, dystrophic pathological changes and electromyography showing myogenic damage. To date, familial LGMD2L was reported in European countries and had not been reported in China.A careful investigation of the clinical manifestations, muscle performance imaging, biopsy, and target next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology was utilized to identify pathogenic genetic variants in a 4-generation pedigree that includes 6 affected individuals.

Clival chordoma: long-term clinical outcome in a single center.

The treatment of clival chordoma remains highly challenging. This difficulty is enhanced by the very small likelihood of a successful complete surgical resection or nonsurgical treatment of chordoma. Additionally, no effective means of interdisciplinary treatment for chordoma have been identified.

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune inflammatory disorder characterized by multiple affected systems. More than half of SLE patients will suffer from neuropsychiatric lupus erythematosus (NPSLE) during the course of their disease. Although nearly half of the NPSLE patients have normal MRI manifestations, the abnormalities found in the remainder can be located anywhere in the brain, and especially in the subcortical white matter of the frontal and temporal lobe.

Nanoscale-driven crystal growth of hexaferrite heterostructures for magnetoelectric tuning of microwave semiconductor integrated devices.

A nanoscale-driven crystal growth of magnetic hexaferrites was successfully demonstrated at low growth temperatures (25-40% lower than the temperatures required often for crystal growth). This outcome exhibits thermodynamic processes of crystal growth, allowing ease in fabrication of advanced multifunctional materials. Most importantly, the crystal growth technique is considered theoretically and experimentally to be universal and suitable for the growth of a wide range of diverse crystals.

Selection of multiarmed spiral waves in a regular network of neurons.

Formation and selection of multiarmed spiral wave due to spontaneous symmetry breaking are investigated in a regular network of Hodgkin-Huxley neuron by changing the excitability and imposing spatial forcing currents on the neurons in the network. The arm number of the multiarmed spiral wave is dependent on the distribution of spatial forcing currents and excitability diversity in the network, and the selection criterion for supporting multiarmed spiral waves is discussed. A broken spiral segment is measured by a short polygonal line connected by three adjacent points (controlled nodes), and a double-spiral wave can be developed from the spiral segment.

Engineered magnetic shape anisotropy in BiFeO3-CoFe2O4 self-assembled thin films.

We report growth of various phase architectures of self-assembled BiFeO3-CoFe2O4 (BFO-CFO) thin films on differently oriented SrTiO3 (STO) substrates. CFO forms segregated square, stripe, and triangular nanopillars embedded in a coherent BFO matrix on (001)-, (110)-, and (111)-oriented STO substrates, respectively. Nanostructures with an aspect ratio of up to 5:1 with a prominent magnetic anisotropy were obtained on both (001) and (110) STO along out-of-plane and in-plane directions.

Two-dimensional singlet oxygen imaging with its near-infrared luminescence during photosensitization.

Photodynamic therapy is a promising cancer treatment that involves activation of photosensitizer by visible light to create singlet oxygen. This highly reactive oxygen species is believed to induce cell death and tissue destruction in PDT. Our approach used a near-infrared area CCD with high quantum efficiency to detect singlet oxygen by its 1270-nm luminescence.

[Fluorescence spectra analysis of the scrophularia soup].

The cold-water and boiled-water soaked scrophularia soups have been prepared. The emission and excitation spectra of each scrophularia soup under different conditions have been measured at room temperature. The pH values of the different scrophularia soups have been also detected.
