Objectives: Antimicrobial Stewardship 2018 (ASP 18) in China emphasizes the hierarchical control of antimicrobial drugs and the management of physicians' prescribing authority, especially in children. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of implementation of ASP 2018 on antibiotic consumption, resistance, and treatment outcomes in children with severe pneumonia from bacterial infections.

Methods: A single center, retrospective study was conducted on 287 children with severe bacterial pneumonia, including 165 patients before intervention (May 2016-April 2018) and 122 patients after intervention (May 2018-April 2020).

Background: Infection-associated acute encephalopathy (AE) is a clinical condition caused by a variety of pathogens, particularly common viruses. In some cases, this condition could be characterized by a sudden onset and a rapid progression, leading to severe neurological sequelae, including acute encephalopathy with biphasic seizures and late reduced diffusion, hemorrhagic shock and encephalopathy syndrome, etc.

Case Presentation: In this study, it was reported that three previously healthy children developed acute encephalopathy/encephalitis symptoms with different neurological sequelae after either Influenza A Virus or Human Herpesvirus 1 infection, presenting with fever and convulsions.

Background: We explored the differences in baseline characteristics, pathogens, complications, outcomes, and risk factors between children with hospital-acquired septic shock (HASS) and community-acquired septic shock (CASS) in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

Methods: This retrospective study enrolled children with septic shock at the PICU of Beijing Children's Hospital from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2019. The patients were followed up until 28 days after shock or death and were divided into the HASS and CASS group.

Background: Thiamine metabolism dysfunction syndrome 4 (THMD4, OMIM #613710) is an autosomal recessive inherited disease caused by the deficiency of SLC25A19 that encodes the mitochondrial thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) transporter. This disorder is characterized by bilateral striatal degradation and progressive polyneuropathy with the onset of fever of unknown origin. The limited number of reported cases and lack of functional annotation of related gene variants continue to limit diagnosis.
