Patients who were taking colchicine or HCQ regularly for a rheumatic disease including Familial Mediterranean Fever, Behçet's syndrome, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Sjogren's syndrome, as well as their healthy household contacts as the control group, were included in the study. Methods: We included 147 consecutive adult patients with CD who underwent primary transsphenoidal surgery (TSS) between 1998 and 2014 in this study. Eighty-two were followed up in the Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Endocrinology and Metabolism outpatient clinic.
Background: We investigated the ischemia-modified albumin (IMA), advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs), prooxidants-antioxidants balance (PAB), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) concentrations in patients with impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and diabetes mellitus (DM) and compared the results to those of normoglycemic individuals at baseline and 2 hours after glucose loading.
Methods: An oral glucose tolerance test was performed on age-matched subjects (n = 110) with a body mass index (BMI) < 27 kg/m(2). Subjects were categorized as normoglycemic (n = 35), IFG (n = 25), IGT (n = 30) and DM (n = 20) according to the WHO criteria.
We aimed to investigate the performance of various creatinine based glomerular filtration rate estimation equations that were widely used in clinical practice in Turkey and calculate a correction coefficient to obtain a better estimate using the isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS)-traceable Modification of the Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) formula. This cross-sectional study included adult (>18 years) outpatients and in patients with chronic kidney disease as well as healthy volunteers. Methods: The study included 16 breast cancer, 25 colorectal cancer, and 38 healthy volunteers as the control group. Blood samples were taken twice from each patient; first at the beginning of the chemotherapy and second after six cycles of chemotherapy.
Background/aims: The objective of this study is to evaluate the factors effective on mortality and morbidity of the patients operated for liver tumor.
Methodology: Thirty-four patients who were operated for liver tumor between January 1st 2008 and December 31st 2009 in Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty have been included in this study. Patient preoperative, perioperative and postoperative characteristics and the effects of these characteristics on mortality, morbidity and the length of hospital stay were evaluated.
We aimed to determine acute phase response (APR) and oxidative stress in patients with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) and compare these characteristics with those in healthy controls; 20 patients with FMF and 15 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and C-reactive protein (CRP), fibrinogen, and leukocyte levels were determined as markers of APR. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), conjugated diene, and lipid hydroperoxide levels were measured as markers of lipid peroxidation.

Background: It is well known that survivors of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) show a tendency to become overweight. Cranial irradiation (CRT), is considered to be the primary risk factor for development of obesity.
Aims: The aim of our study was to evaluate body mass index (BMI) and serum leptin levels in survivors of childhood ALL.
Objective: It has been suggested that lipid-lowering treatment with the use of statins adversely affects the steroid hormones. However, the safety of lipid lowering treatment targeting very low levels of LDL with respect to the steroid hormones has not been established.
Research Design And Methods: A prospective, randomized, multicenter trial was conducted involving 98 patients.
Objectives: To analyse the most common MEFV (Mediterranean fever gene) mutations and polymorphisms in an elderly population free of chronic inflammatory disease (n=164), and explore possible associations between hsCRP (high sensitive C-reactive protein) and RF (rheumatoid factor) levels with MEFV mutations and polymorphisms.
Methods: An elderly group free of chronic inflammatory disease was chosen among the outpatients of the division of geriatric medicine. Total genomic DNA was isolated from blood, and PCR-RFLP analysis was performed using established protocols.
Leptin is a key mediator in the maintenance of neuroendocrine homeostasis. The aim of this study was to determine the changes in serum leptin, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin-6 (IL-6), nitric oxide (NO) levels in patients with hyperprolactinemia. The study consists of 16 consecutive patients with high prolactin (PRL) levels (group I) and a control group of 11 normoprolactinemic patients (group II).

In the present study, we assessed the hemostatic parameters and anticardiolipin antibodies in patients with solid tumors (n = 104) and healthy controls (n = 25) and also find out whether the abnormalities in these hemostatic parameters vary related to tumor burden.
