Background: Decisions regarding mode of delivery in the context of a prior cesarean birth is complicated because both trial of labor after cesarean and elective repeat cesarean birth have risks and benefits.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to understand the perspective of women and obstetricians in Coatepeque, Guatemala, to guide the development of a decision aid about mode of birth for women with a history of prior cesarean.

Methods: We conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with obstetricians at Coatepeque Hospital and women at the Center for Human Development in the southwest Trifinio region of Guatemala in February 2020.

Objectives: This study assessed the use and perceptions of physician associates/assistants (PAs) and NPs at liver transplant centers and sought to determine their financial effect.

Methods: Leaders of liver transplant programs performing 25 or more transplants in 2020 were contacted to complete an 11-question survey about the role and effect of PAs and NPs in liver transplant. A single-center retrospective analysis compared length of stay (LOS) and readmission rates for primary liver transplants and simultaneous liver-kidney transplants before and after a dedicated PA team was established.

Objectives: Limited research exists on COVID-19 associated brain fog, and on the long-term cognitive and psychiatric sequelae in racially and ethnically diverse patients. We characterize the neuropsychological sequelae of post-acute COVID-19 in a diverse cohort and investigate whether COVID-19 clinical severity remains associated with brain fog and cognitive deficits approximately 2 years post infection.

Methods: A cross-sectional study of patients with a history of COVID-19 hospitalization (March-September 2020).

Article Synopsis
  • Osimertinib targets and inhibits the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in cancer cells, leading to cell death and reduced tumors, making it a key treatment for EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
  • The ADAURA study compared the effects of osimertinib to a placebo in patients with surgically removed early-stage (IB-IIIA) EGFR-mutated NSCLC, showing that those on osimertinib had longer disease-free survival.
  • Recent results reveal that osimertinib significantly improves overall survival, with a 51% lower risk of death for patients treated with it compared to the placebo group.

Introduction: In Chinese patients with NSCLC, prevalence of EGFR-mutated (EGFRm) disease is high. In the global phase 3 ADAURA study (NCT02511106), adjuvant osimertinib was found to have a statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvement in disease-free survival (DFS) versus placebo in resected stage IB to IIIA EGFRm NSCLC. We present efficacy and safety data from a subgroup analysis of 159 Chinese patients enrolled in the People's Republic of China from ADAURA.

Background: Among patients with resected, epidermal growth factor receptor ()-mutated, stage IB to IIIA non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), adjuvant osimertinib therapy, with or without previous adjuvant chemotherapy, resulted in significantly longer disease-free survival than placebo in the ADAURA trial. We report the results of the planned final analysis of overall survival.

Methods: In this phase 3, double-blind trial, we randomly assigned eligible patients in a 1:1 ratio to receive osimertinib (80 mg once daily) or placebo until disease recurrence was observed, the trial regimen was completed (3 years), or a discontinuation criterion was met.

The capacity to biosynthesise long-chain (≥C20) polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA) depends upon the complement and function of key enzymes commonly known as fatty acyl desaturases and elongases. The presence of a Δ5/Δ6 desaturase enabling the biosynthesis of docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n-3, DHA) through the "Sprecher pathway" has been reported in Chelon labrosus. Research in other teleosts have demonstrated that LC-PUFA biosynthesis can be modulated by diet and ambient salinity.

Purpose: The phase III ADAURA (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT02511106) primary analysis demonstrated a clinically significant disease-free survival (DFS) benefit with adjuvant osimertinib versus placebo in EGFR-mutated stage IB-IIIA non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after complete tumor resection (DFS hazard ratio [HR], 0.20 [99.

Background: The intention of our study was to establish the prevalence of low birth weight (LBW) as well as risk factors for LBW in infants born to a convenience sample of women enrolled in a home visitation maternal care program associated with the Center for Human Development in Southwest Trifinio, Guatemala.

Methods: This is an observational study analyzing self-reported data from a quality improvement database. We recorded the distribution of birthweights of infants born to women enrolled in Madres Sanas that delivered between October 2018 and December 2019.

Introduction: The use of traditional birth attendants (TBAs) in low- and middle-income countries remains controversial. The aim of this secondary analysis was to observe factors associated with visiting a TBA in addition to a skilled nurse for antepartum care and how this additional care was associated with birth characteristics and outcomes.

Methods: The study included a convenience sample of women living in Southwestern Guatemala enrolled in a community nursing program between October 1, 2018, and December 3, 2019.

Although the overrepresentation of people with mental illness in the criminal justice system is known, research is needed to identify the frequency of criminal justice involvement and criminogenic treatment needs in inpatient populations to improve continuity of care and access to appropriate treatments. The purpose of this study is to document the frequency of criminal justice involvement among people receiving inpatient community care, as has been done for persons with mental illness in correctional institutions, and to test the association between criminogenic risk and psychiatric symptomatology. The present study uses two samples ( = 94 and = 142) of adults from two separate acute psychiatric inpatient hospitals in Texas.

Humans allocate visual working memory (WM) resource according to behavioral relevance, resulting in more precise memories for more important items. Theoretically, items may be maintained by feature-tuned neural populations, where the relative gain of the populations encoding each item determines precision. To test this hypothesis, we compared the amplitudes of delay period activity in the different parts of retinotopic maps representing each of several WM items, predicting the amplitudes would track behavioral priority.

Objective: Our objective was to observe the prevalence of postpartum contraceptive use in a population of rural women in Southwest Guatemala by type, and to determine characteristics associated with long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) use and sterilization.

Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of prospectively collected quality improvement data from a cohort of postpartum women. We compared women intending to use or already using contraception to those not intending to utilize a method; bivariate comparisons were used to determine if there were differences in characteristics between these groups.

Introduction: The aim of this analysis is to present initial contraceptive choices of women offered postpartum contraception in rural Guatemala.

Methods: We trained community nurses participating in the delivery of a home-based antepartum and postpartum care program in rural Guatemala in contraceptive implant placement and had them offer condoms, pills, an injection, or an implant at women's home-based 40-day postpartum visit in intervention clusters of a non-blinded, cluster-randomized trial. Women who had already started postpartum contraception or were over the age of 35 were excluded from participation.

Background: Polysialic acid (polySia) modifies six cell surface proteins in humans mainly during fetal development and some blood cells in adults. Two genes in humans, ST8SIA2 and ST8SIA4, code for polysialyltransferases that synthesize polySia. ST8SIA2 is highly expressed during fetal development and in cancer but not in adult normal human cells.

Design: We conducted a secondary analysis of a cluster-randomized trial to observe characteristics associated with women who chose to use long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) compared to those who chose a short-acting method 12 months after enrollment.

Methods: The trial studied four control and four intervention clusters where the intervention clusters were offered contraception at their 40-day routine postpartum visit; control clusters received standard care, which included comprehensive postpartum contraceptive counseling. Women were followed through twelve months postpartum.
