Antibiotic treatment of symptomatic Mycoplasma genitalium infection in Scandinavia: a controlled clinical trial.

Objectives: To evaluate the microbiological cure rate after treatment with tetracyclines or azithromycin in patients infected with M genitalium.

Methods: One hundred and fifty-two men and 60 women positive for M genitalium were recruited. Patients treated either with doxycyline for 9 days or with azithromycin 1 g stat.

A case of photosensitivity and contact allergy to systemic tricyclic drugs, with unusual features.

A 43-year-old farmer on tricyclic antidepressive drugs developed a severe photodermatitis with associated liver involvement. The lesions spread to covered areas of the skin, suggesting photoallergy clinically. Patch and photopatch testing revealed photoallergy and contact allergy to clomipramine and contact allergy also to carbamazepine.

Allergic contact dermatitis to propyl gallate.

The antioxidant propyl gallate in a moisturizing cream caused an allergic contact dermatitis in a patient previously sensitized to gallates while working in a bakery.

The clinical pictures of giant cell arteritis. Temporal arteritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, and fever of unknown origin.

In a prospective study, 68 hospitalized patients were diagnosed as having giant cell arteritis. Temporal artery biopsy was performed in all patients and showed histologic evidence of arteritis in 42 (62%). Twenty-six patients had a negative biopsy but met the clinical criteria for the diagnosis.

Metabolic studies and glucagon gel filtration pattern before and after surgery in a case of glucagonoma syndrome.

A case of glucagonoma syndrome with necrolytic migratory erythema, glossitis, anemia, hyperglucagonemia and a malignant, pancreatic A-cell tumour in a 68-year-old male is described. Gel filtration of the highly elevated circulating glucagon immunoreactivity (2200 pg/ml) demonstrated 60% pancreatic glucagon and 30% "proglucagon". Metabolic studies before operation demonstrated suppression of the total plasma glucagon concentration on oral glucose tolerance test, unchanged total plasma glucagon concentration during intravenous glucose tolerance test and insulin-induced hypoglycemia.
