Article Synopsis
  • Compound fractures of the distal tibia present significant challenges for orthopedic and plastic surgeons due to limited soft tissue options and complex fracture patterns.
  • A study conducted following PRISMA guidelines reviewed 3355 articles, ultimately selecting 14 with 283 participants; it highlighted variability in bone loss (0.7 to 18.2 cm) and soft tissue defects (3/3 cm to 16/21 cm), but showed successful treatment methods.
  • The findings emphasize the importance of an orthoplastic team, recommending the use of Ilizarov external fixators combined with flap reconstruction for effective treatment and reduced complications in high-energy tibia trauma cases.

(1) Background: Hip fractures are currently recognized as major public health problems, raising many issues in terms of both patients' quality of life and the cost associated with caring for this type of fracture. Many authors debate whether to operate as soon as possible or to postpone surgery until the patient is stable. The purpose of this review was to review the literature and obtain additional information about the moment of surgery, the time to surgery, length of hospital stay, and how all of these factors influence patient mortality and complications.

The present paper proposes a reconstruction of the epidemic curves from the fractal interpolation point of view. Looking at the epidemic curves as fractal structures might be an efficient way to retrieve missing pieces of information due to insufficient testing and predict the evolution of the disease. A fractal approach of the epidemic curve can contribute to the assessment and modeling of other epidemics.
