Background: Genetically determined hypoparathyroidism can lead to life-threatening episodes of hypocalcemia and, more rarely, to end-stage kidney disease at a young age. Parathyroid allotransplantation is the only curative treatment, and in patients already receiving immunosuppression for kidney transplantation, there may be little additional risk involved. We report the first such case in a child.

Objective: To compare the effect of short-term oxygenated hypothermic machine perfusion preservation (end-HMPo2) after SCS vs SCS alone on 1-year graft survival in expanded criteria donor kidneys from donors who are brain dead.
Design, Setting, And Participants: In a prospective, randomized, multicenter trial, kidneys from expanded criteria donors were randomized to either SCS alone or SCS followed by end-HMPo2 prior to implantation with a minimum machine perfusion time of 120 minutes.
The gap between supply and demand in kidney transplantation has led to increased use of marginal kidneys; however, kidneys with acute kidney injury are often declined/discarded. To determine whether this policy is justified, we analyzed outcomes of donor kidneys with acute kidney injury (AKI) in a large UK cohort. A retrospective analysis of the UK Transplant Registry evaluated deceased donors between 2003 and 2013.

Cellular binding was studied by lCP-MS analysis of the Gadolinium content and by Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) assays. The best formulation in terms of selectivity towards IGROV-1 cells with respect to non-targeted DO-NPs, was that containing 3% (C18)2Peg3000- FA (P < 0.

With respect to iso-osmotic incubations, the hypo-osmotic labeling significantly increased the Gd(3+) cellular uptake, and enhanced both the longitudinal relaxivity (r1) of the intracellular Gadoteridol and the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) measured on cell pellets, without altering the biological and functional profile of cells. Over the last 10 years, with the increasing usage of DCD donors, we have seen the introduction in a number of new terms and definitions. We report the results of the 6th International Conference in Organ Donation held in Paris in 2013 and report a consensus agreement of an established expert European Working Group on the definitions and terminology regarding DCD donation, including refinement of the Maastricht definitions.

It is based on the functionalization of the surface of small mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) (∼30 nm) with the arginine-glycine-aspartic (RGD) moieties, which are known to target αvβ3 integrin receptors overexpressed in several tumor cells. The obtained nanoprobe (Gd-MSNs-RGD) displays good stability, tolerability and high relaxivity (37.

The increased demand for organs has led to the increased usage of "higher risk" kidney and liver grafts. These grafts from donation after circulatory death or expanded criteria donors are more susceptible to preservation injury and have a higher risk of unfavorable outcomes. Dynamic, instead of static, preservation could allow for organ optimization, offering a platform for viability assessment, active organ repair and resuscitation.

The fast, easily performed and cheap measurement of the longitudinal water proton relaxation rate (R1) in urine reports the amount of paramagnetic probe that has escaped the gastrointestinal tract. The proposed method appears to be a compelling alternative to the available methods for the assessment of intestinal permeability.

In vitro experiments showed that Gadoteridol was an excellent imaging agent for probing the release of Doxorubicin following pLINFU stimulation. On this basis, the theranostic system was investigated in vivo on a syngeneic murine model of TS/A breast cancer.

The task was achieved by formulating liposomes filled up with the clinically approved paramagnetic agent gadoteridol, because the release of the agent from the nanovesicles is accompanied by a significant MRI signal enhancement. The protocol was validated in vivo on mice-bearing subcutaneous syngeneic B16 melanoma and i.

The aim of this study was to show the effectiveness of liposomes as an ultrasound contrast agent to describe the 3-D vascular architecture of a tumor. Eight C57BL/6 mice grafted with syngeneic B16-F10 murine melanoma cells were injected with a bolus of 1,2-Distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocoline (DSPC)-based non-targeted liposomes and with a bolus of microbubbles.

Among them, the possibility of accurate spatiotemporal control of the release of the chemotherapeutic from the carrier is one of the most interesting and clinically relevant. To further improve the therapy outcome, the clinical translation of imaging protocols for the in vivo visualization of the release step is of paramount importance.

Experience with domiciliary noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIMV) in children is limited. The aim of this study was to determine the number of patients and categorize the use of domiciliary NIMV in children in France. An anonymous cross-sectional national study was performed, using a postal questionnaire sent to all specialist centers utilizing domiciliary NIMV for chronic respiratory failure.
