Iatrogenic bile duct injuries remain a substantial problem in gastrointestinal surgery, especially if discovered later in the postoperative period. Herein, we report a case of an unusual bile leak following laparoscopic cholecystectomy consisting of an isolated right segmental hepatic duct injury of segment 5 together with an additional bile leak of a small duct connecting the gallbladder fossa with the common bile duct. We call this situation an incomplete isolated right segmental hepatic duct injury.

Background: Iatrogenic injury of the thoracic duct with clinical significant chyloperitoneum is a rare complication of abdominal surgery. Chyloperitoneum following laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication has been described in a few cases only. Most interventionists use the antegrade transperitoneal approach for thoracic duct embolization.

Background: The Critical Assessment of Functional Annotation (CAFA) is an ongoing, global, community-driven effort to evaluate and improve the computational annotation of protein function.

Results: Here, we report on the results of the third CAFA challenge, CAFA3, that featured an expanded analysis over the previous CAFA rounds, both in terms of volume of data analyzed and the types of analysis performed. In a novel and major new development, computational predictions and assessment goals drove some of the experimental assays, resulting in new functional annotations for more than 1000 genes.

Segmental Arterial Mediolysis of Omental Arteries with Haemoperitoneum: Case Report with Embolization of the Left Omental Artery and Brief Review of Literature.

Segmental arterial mediolysis of an omental artery is an exceptionally rare condition. A 69-year-old man presented with haemoperitoneum six days after being hospitalized due to pneumogenic sepsis. Computed tomography of the abdomen showed a short segment dilatation of an omental artery in the left upper abdomen, compatible with segmental arterial mediolysis.

Port Placement via the Anterior Jugular Venous System: Case Report, Anatomic Considerations, and Literature Review.

We report on a patient who was referred for port implantation with a two-chamber pacemaker aggregate on the right and total occlusion of the central veins on the left side. Venous access for port implantation was performed via left side puncture of the horizontal segment of the anterior jugular vein system (AJVS) and insertion of the port catheter using a crossover technique from the left to the right venous system via the jugular venous arch (JVA). The clinical significance of the AJVS and the JVA for central venous access and port implantation is emphasised and the corresponding literature is reviewed.

Without medical centers that include persistent volumes of trauma, simulation has become the means to maintain and practice those skills. To create those simulations, standards for both design and metrics to evaluate practitioners are required.

TMAinspiration: Decode Interdependencies in Multifactorial Tissue Microarray Data.

There are no satisfying tools in tissue microarray (TMA) data analysis up to now to analyze the cooperative behavior of all measured markers in a multifactorial TMA approach. The developed tool TMAinspiration is not only offering an analysis option to close this gap but also offering an ecosystem consisting of quality control concepts and supporting scripts to make this approach a platform for informed practice and further research. The TMAinspiration method is specifically focusing on the demands of the TMA analysis by controlling errors and noise by a generalized regression scheme while at the same time avoiding to introduce a priori too many constraints into the analysis of the data.

The extremely rare vascular variant of a segmental duplicated uterine artery and its relevance for the interventionist and gynecologist: a case report.

Background: Anatomic variants of the uterine artery are rare, with the absence of one of the uterine arteries presumably being the most abundant variant. A duplicated uterine artery is mentioned in the medical literature, but to the best of our knowledge, an angiographic study has never been published. A partially duplicated uterine artery is an extremely rare variant not previously mentioned in the literature, and it could lead to technical difficulties or cause problems in various gynecological interventions.

Following the first case of a systemic air embolism due to percutaneous CT-guided lung biopsy in our clinic we analysed the literature regarding this matter in view of influenceable or avoidable risk factors. A systematic review of literature reporting cases of systemic air embolism due to CT-guided lung biopsy was performed to find out whether prone positioning might be a risk factor regarding this issue. In addition, a technical note concerning coaxial biopsy practice is presented.
