Negative temperature coefficient (NTC) chip thermistors were thermally coupled to form a novel device (TCCT) aimed for application in microelectronics. It consists of two NTC chip thermistors Th and Th, which are small in size (0603) and power (1/10 W). They are in thermal junction, but concurrently they are electrically isolated.

Paternalistic language in patients' health records is of specific ethical concern because it emphasizes clinicians' power and patients' vulnerabilities and can be demeaning and traumatizing. This article considers the importance of person-centered, trauma-informed language in clinical documentation and suggests strategies for teaching students and trainees documentation practices that express clinical neutrality and respect.

When not addressed by primary treating teams, patients request sleep aids "as needed," leading to increased burden on on-call residents and decreased individualized treatment. The authors implemented a new educational curriculum and computer order set for inpatient insomnia management, and examined changes in residents' comfort level in its management and in inpatient sleep medication ordering patterns.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLimitations on resident duty hours have been widely introduced with the intention of decreasing resident fatigue and improving patient outcomes. While there is evidence of improvement in resident well-being and education following such initiatives, they have inadvertently resulted in increased number of hand-offs between clinicians leading to potential errors in patient care. Current literature emphasizes need for more specialty/setting-specific scheduling, while considering residents' opinions when implementing duty-hour reforms.

Overnight, hospitals still in operation, such as Maimonides Medical Center, were faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges in providing adequate health care services.
Objectives: This study had 3 goals: (1) to assess the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the number and pattern of visits to the psychiatric emergency room (PER) at Maimonides Medical Center; (2) to analyze the procedures implemented in addressing increased demands; and (3) to identify any shortcomings in our response and explore how it can be altered to face future challenges.
Aim: To evaluate the recurrence of colorectal neoplasia after endoscopic resection of adenomas.
Methods: The establishment of a register of colorectal cancers and pre-cancerous lesions for Loire-Atlantique (a French administrative division) led to the recording of files for all subjects with colorectal adenomas. The files for the cohort followed up for the years 1991 and 1992 were re-examined at the end of 1998 to determine the risk factors for recurrence.
We report a case of a human gastric composite tumor occurring seven years after a partial gastrectomy for a low grade B cell MALT lymphoma. Histological examination of the tumor revealed two intimately intermingled components: 1. A moderately to poorly differentiated tubulo-acinar adenocarcinoma with signet-ring cells; and 2.

The aim of this retrospective and multicentric study was to report the clinical and pathological characteristics of these neoplasms in a series of 12 patients and to compare them with the literature.
Patients And Methods: From 1987 to 1998, 12 patients were operated for a DS.
Sensitive, specific radiopharmaceuticals are available for scintigraphic diagnosis and internal radiotherapy of neuroendocrine tumors. (123)I-MIBG (metaiodobenzylguanidine) scintigraphy is the examination of choice for visualizing tumor sites of pheochromocytoma. In the event of malignant pheochromocytoma or carcinoid tumor, this examination allows assessment of the presence or absence of tumor uptake and can guide radiotherapy with (131)I-MIBG.

Methods And Results: Eighty-two surgical cases of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours were examined histologically with immunohistochemical staining of paraffin sections using streptavidin-biotin complex and application of antibodies against chromogranin A and 10 hormonal peptides. Classification in four groups correlated with long follow-up and outcome of these cases.
The aim of this retrospective study on 52 operated medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) was to assess clinical and biochemical factors influencing survival without clinical recidive. There were 52% of familial cases. Mean age was 44 years (3 to 78 years) with 58% of women.

Precise localization of cervical node metastasis of papillary thyroid carcinoma is rarely described. The aim of this retrospective study was to map their cervical involvement. Between 1974 and 1996 a series of 119 patients had total thyroidectomy with bilateral cervical lymph node dissection.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFor patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma, lymph node involvement is a common complication, resulting in node dissection and its resulting morbidity. To determine means of limiting lymph node dissections, we attempted to define intra-operative criteria predictive of node metastasis and so identify the patients likely to benefit from this procedure. This retrospective study concerned 158 patients (118 female) treated between 1974 and 1996 for papillary thyroid carcinoma by total thyroidectomy associated with bilateral (central and lateral) (n = 119) or unilateral (n = 39) dissection.

The cases belonged to the various forms of the disease (80 sporadic and 29 familial MTC). The aim of the study was to detect histological predictors for survival by comparing morphological data from patients killed by the disease versus the others.

We report a case of acinar cell carcinoma of the pancreas with misleading cystic changes. A 32-year-old woman presented with symptoms suggesting acute pancreatitis on chronic pancreatitis. The abdominal computed tomography and the endoscopic retrograde pancreatography demonstrated hypertrophy of the pancreatic head associated with global dilatation of main pancreatic duct and secondary canals and a 5 cm communicating cyst.

This metastasis was discovered two months after the diagnosis of an inextirpable thyroid tumor. Tall cell variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma is a sub-type of papillary carcinoma with an aggressive course and frequent metastases (in patients over 50 years of age).

Patients And Methods: Two cases of bronchic NET were observed, both in women, and 4 cases of thymic NET, all in men, giving a prevalence of 7.
We reported a case of papillary and cystic tumor (Frantz's Tumor) associated with familial adenomatous polyposis in a young man, 29 years old. This case emphasized the interest of fine needle biopsy and the difficulties for determination of the final pathology. Close long term follow up is essential as local recurrencies and metastasis in the long term had been recorded, undergoing resection with curative intent.
