Unlabelled: APOBEC3 proteins (A3s) play an important role in host innate immunity against viruses and DNA mutations in cancer. A3s-induced mutations in both viral and human DNA genomes vary significantly from non-lethal mutations in viruses to localized hypermutations, such as kataegis in cancer. How A3s are regulated remains largely unknown.

In this study, we assessed CD36's role as a PRR mediating pro-inflammatory effects of several known Danger-Associated Molecular Patterns (DAMPs) used either as a single preparation or as a combination of DAMPs in the form of total cell/skeletal muscle tissue lysates. Our data demonstrated that multiple DAMPs, including HMGB1, HSPs, histone H3, SAA, and oxPAPC, as well as cell/tissue lysate preparations, induced substantially higher (~7-10-fold) IL-8 cytokine responses in HEK293 cells overexpressing CD36 compared to control WT cells.

Many hope it will help elucidate how mental states are encoded in brain activity, though others caution that such optimism may be premature. In this study, we sought to identify an fMRI-based signature of a relatively simple but basic feeling of recognizing one's own face (SFRS), and to examine its properties.

The neural underpinning of cooperative and competitive constructive activity has been investigated using mass-univariate approaches. In this study, we sought to compare the results of these approaches with the results of multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA). In particular, we wanted to test whether MVPA supports the claim made in previous studies that cooperation is associated with the activity of reward-related brain circuits.

However, the neural basis for these associations is unknown. In this functional magnetic resonance imaging study, using multivariate pattern analysis of data recorded during a computer game in which participants were required to construct target patterns either in cooperation or in competition with another person, we sought to determine how individual differences in neural representations of cooperative and competitive behavior relate to individual differences in agreeableness and aggressiveness.

Next, using representational similarity analysis, we sought to elucidate how these perceptual similarities and differences are represented in brain activity and how aggressiveness is related to these representations. Behavioral ratings show that, on average, people tend to consider themselves more like their friends than neutral strangers, and least like people they dislike.

Scavenger receptor CD36 is involved in lipid transport and acts as a receptor for Tr-OxPLs. Interestingly, Tr-OxPLs and CD36 are involved in endothelial dysfunction-derived acute lung injury, but the precise mechanistic connections remain unexplored.

Methods: In a prospective, observational study, 306 participants with cardiovascular disease (CVD) had extensive lipoprotein profiling.
Truncated phospholipid oxidation products (Tr-OxPL) increase in blood circulation with aging; however, their role in the severity of vascular dysfunction and bacterial lung injury in aging groups remains poorly understood. We investigated the effects of six Tr-OxPL species: KOdiA-PC, POVPC, PONPC, PGPC, Paz-PC, and Lyso-PC on endothelial dysfunction and lung inflammation caused by heat-killed (HKSA) in young (aged 2-4 months) and old (aged 12-18 months) mice, organotypic culture of precisely cut lung slices, and endothelial cells (mLEC) isolated from young and old mice. HKSA and Tr-OxPL combination caused a higher degree of vascular leak, the accumulation of inflammatory cells and protein in bronchoalveolar lavage, and inflammatory gene expression in old mice lungs.

In adults, the central executive and salience networks (task-positive networks, TPN) and the default mode network (DMN) are critical for RTV. Given that RTV decreases with growing up, and that boys are likely somewhat behind girls with respect to the network development, we aimed to clarify age and sex effects.

The three most stable resting state networks, among which the default mode network (DMN), the central executive network (CEN) and the salience network (SN) are considered to be the key neurocognitive networks for understanding higher cognitive functions. Peculiarities of changes in the connectivity of resting state networks of an individual entering a new environment and after a year of adaptation in this environment remain poorly studied.

We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a short-term PR program in patients with comorbid asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and obesity. We included 40 ACO patients and divided them into 3 groups according to body mass index (BMI) and then subdivided them into PR (n=21) and control (n=19) groups.

During performance, the Stop-Signal task EEGs were recorded in 94 Caucasian children (40 girls) from 7 to 10 years. Hyperactivity/inattention and inattention scores positively correlated with RT variability.

Neuroimaging studies link self-esteem with the activity of the medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC), right temporoparietal junction (rTPJ), posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), anterior insula (AIns), and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. It is not known, however, how the process of self-appraisal itself is mediated by the brain and how different nodes of the self-appraisal network interact with each other.

However, how APOBEC3s mutate a single-stranded DNA that is available momentarily during DNA transcription or replication in vivo remains relatively unknown. In this study, utilizing hepatitis B virus (HBV) viral mutations, we evaluated the mutational characteristics of individual APOBEC3s with reference to the HBV replication process through HBV whole single-strand (-)-DNA genome mutation analyses.

Other data, including ours, provide evidence for an alternative role of SR-BI, facilitating bacterial and endotoxin uptake and contributing to inflammation and bacterial infection. Enhanced endotoxin susceptibility of SR-BI-deficient mice due to their anti-inflammatory glucocorticoid deficiency complicates the understanding of SR-BI's role in endotoxemia/sepsis, calling for the use of alternative models.

The default mode network (DMN) is the primary network associated with the processing of self, whereas task-positive networks (TPN) are indispensable for the processing of external objects. We hypothesize that self- and close-other-processing would engage DMN more than TPN, whereas distant-other-processing would engage TPN to a greater extent.

The possibility of graphene synthesis (the bottom-up approach) in plasma and the effective control of the morphology and electrical properties of graphene-based layers were demonstrated. Graphene flakes were grown in a plasma jet generated by a direct current plasma torch with helium and argon as the plasma-forming gases. In the case of argon plasma, the synthesized graphene flakes were relatively thick (2-6 nm) and non-conductive.

HDL derived CE accumulates in cellular lipid droplets (LDs), which also store triacylglycerol (TAG). We hypothesized that SR-BI could significantly facilitate LD formation, in part, by directly transporting LDL derived neutral lipids (NL) such as CE and TAG into LDs without lipolysis and de novo lipid synthesis.
