A fully mechanized, computer-controlled, multicommutated flow analysis (MCFA) system dedicated for total protein determination in cerebrospinal fluid samples has been developed. For the protein determination the Exton method has been applied. Dedicated turbidimetric and nephelometric flow-through detectors operating according to paired-emitter detector diode principle have been fabricated by integration of two or three respective light emitting diodes.

There is increasing evidence that oxidative stress (OS) plays a major role in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus (DM) and the development of its complications. Cross-sectional, anonymous screening for asymptomatic HCV infection, immunity to HBV, and occult HBV infection among health care workers in Warsaw, Poland.

Introduction And Objectives: Epidemiological data on symptomatic HCV infection in Poland has shown that its prevalence among health care workers (HCWs) may exceed the prevalence notified among general population. Since such epidemiological situation would be similar to the increased prevalence of HBV infection among HCWs before anti-hepatitis B vaccine era, a seroprevalence study on HCV infection and immunity to HBV was performed in the group of volunteering HCWs.

Material And Methods: All the persons employed as HCWs in the two largest clinical hospitals in Warsaw were invited to participate in the study.

[The usefulness of plasma cystatin C determination as a marker of glomerular filtration rate].

Cystatin C is a low molecular weight protein; a cysteine proteinase inhibitor. As it is freely filtrated in the renal glomeruli, and not reabsorbed into circulation, therefore it may be used as a marker of glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Background: The study was designed to determine whether impaired antiplatelet response to clopidogrel but not to aspirin may be responsible for loss of pleiotropic effects of the drug.

Methods: Study included 34 consecutive patients with STEMI undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with stent implantation treated with aspirin (loading dose 300 mg followed by 75 mg/day) and clopidogrel (loading dose 600 mg followed by 75 mg/day).
