Detection of chromosome x;18 breakpoints and translocation of the xq22.3;18q23 regions resulting in variable fertility phenotypes.

We describe a familial pattern of gonosomal-autosomal translocation between the X and 18 chromosomes, balanced and unbalanced forms, in male and female siblings. The proposita was consulted for hypergonadotropic hypogonadism. Karyotype analysis revealed a balanced 46, X, t(X;18)(q22.

TNF inhibitors: a review of the recent patent literature.

Overproduction of the inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha is implicated in a wide range of pathological conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), multiple sclerosis and stroke. This review focuses on recent developments in the patent literature, which are aimed principally at the suppression of TNF release. The review will separately detail the development of biological agents, such as soluble TNF receptors and engineered antibodies, and small molecules, which primarily target TNF.

Inhibition of alveolar bone loss by matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors in experimental periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease is characterized by excessive host collagenase resulting in loss of gingival and periodontal ligament collagen and adjacent alveolar bone. Intragingival endotoxin injection induces a model of periodontal disease characterized by rapid bone loss with biochemical features similar to that of naturally occurring adult periodontitis. CH1766, a peptide with a zinc binding moeity which fits into the active site of the enzyme, and CH6631, a hydroxamic acid derivative with aryl-substituted sulphonamide residues, are inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPIs) with differing inhibitory profiles as characterized by in vitro assays.
