The Effects of Two Kinds of Gargles on Oral Mucositis in Patients After Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation.

Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the effects of two kinds of gargles (Koushu & Koutai) on oral mucositis (OM) in patients with agranulocytosis.

Methods: One hundred eighty patients who underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in the Peking University Institute of Hematology were enrolled from March 2018 to January 2019. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups by random number table.

Plerixafor-based mobilization and mononuclear cell counts in graft increased the risk of engraftment syndrome after autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Engraftment syndrome (ES) is one of the most common complications in the early phase after autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT), and we aimed to evaluate the incidence and risk factors for ES patients receiving ASCT in the era of plerixafor-based mobilization. A total of 294 were enrolled, and 16.0% (n = 47) experienced ES after ASCT.

Targeting DNA-PK overcomes acquired resistance to third-generation EGFR-TKI osimertinib in non-small-cell lung cancer.

The third-generation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), represented by osimertinib, has achieved remarkable clinical outcomes in the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR mutation. However, resistance eventually emerges in most patients and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain to be fully understood. In this study, we generated an osimertinib-acquired resistant lung cancer model from a NSCLC cell line H1975 harboring EGFR L858R and T790M mutations.

Benzyl isothiocyanate induces protective autophagy in human lung cancer cells through an endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated mechanism.

Isothiocyanates, such as allyl isothiocya¬nate (AITC), benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC), phenethyl isothio¬cyanate (PEITC) and sulforaphane (SFN), are natural compounds abundant in cruciferous vegetables, which have substantial chemopreventive activities against various human malignancies. However, the mechanisms underlying the inhibition of tumor cell growth by isothiocyanates are not fully understood. Since autophagy has dual functions in cancer, in the present study we investigated the effects of BITC on autophagy induction in human lung cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.

[Relationship between placental pathology and small-for-gestational age neonates].

Objective: To investigate the relationship between pathological abnormalities of placenta and small-for-gestational-age neonates.

Methods: One hundred placentas of small-for-gestational-age (SGA group) and 200 appropriate-for-gestational-age (AGA group) with single living birth in third trimester were investigated by gross and microscopic examination. The AGA placentas were collected from 2 cases following every SGA placenta.

Apoptosis induced by benzyl isothiocyanate in gefitinib-resistant lung cancer cells is associated with Akt/MAPK pathways and generation of reactive oxygen species.

Gefitinib is the first targeted drug approved for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment. Clinical trails showed that patients with certain clinical and histologic characteristics (such as women, patients of East Asian descent, no history of smoking, and adenocarcinoma) had higher rates of response and overall survival. Despite excellent clinical response to gefitinib in certain NSCLC patients, nearly all patients who respond initially to gefitinib later develop drug resistance.
