Dealing with oil spills is urgent, and bioaugmentation is a low-cost and environmentally friendly method. However, little research has been done on the remediation effect of bioaugmentation in oil-polluted environments with bottom seawater microorganisms. This work constructed the bottom seawater (S) group and surface seawater environment (T) group to study the oil degradation ability and the microbial community successions tendency with the function of integrated bacterial consortium.

Biomagnetic monitoring has rapidly emerged as a valuable tool in urban atmospheric pollution (UAP) assessment due to its high spatial resolution, complementing traditional monitoring systems. This review systematically elucidates the principles of plant dust retention and the factors influencing it, while also reviewing the advancements in global research on UAP monitoring through the magnetic properties of various plant species. We provide a comprehensive analysis of the current applications of biomagnetic monitoring in UAP and identify critical challenges, including species-specific monitoring discrepancies, complex pollution sources, and non-standardized sample preparation methods.

Selective poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) inhibitors not only exhibit antitumor efficacy but also offer the potential to mitigate the toxicities typically associated with broader PARP inhibition. In this study, we designed and synthesized a series of small molecules targeting highly selective PARP1 inhibitors. Among these, demonstrated excellent selectivity to PARP1 along with the capability to effectively cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB).

Background: Fruit size is a crucial economic trait that impacts the quality of jujube (Ziziphus jujuba), however, research in this area remains limited. This study utilized two jujube cultivars with similar genetic backgrounds but differing fruit sizes to investigate the regulatory mechanisms affecting fruit size through cytological observations, transcriptome sequencing, and heterologous overexpression.

Results: The findings reveal that variations in mesocarp cell numbers during early fruit development significantly influence final fruit size.

Background: As society ages, the incidence of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures steadily rises. Procedures like percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) and percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) have proven effective in significantly relieving pain in patients with these fractures. While PKP and PVP are minimally invasive, complications can still occur.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of geraniol acetate (gefarnate) in reducing lipid levels in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) who still experience high triglycerides after statin treatment.
  • Patients in a trial received either gefarnate with statins or just statins, and results showed significant reductions in triglyceride and increases in HDL cholesterol after one month of treatment with gefarnate.
  • These findings suggest that gefarnate might help manage CAD by lowering harmful lipid levels while simultaneously protecting against gastrointestinal injuries caused by aspirin.

This paper focuses on the neutron spectrum measurement using a liquid scintillation detector, where the neutron spectrum could be identified and unfolded from the light output distribution of the EJ-301 liquid scintillation detector through a linear artificial neural network (ANN). The response functions of the EJ-301 detector for monoenergetic neutron sources, as well as the light outputs, have been simulated and calculated by Monte Carlo procedure FLUKA. The linear ANN was trained and tested through the simulated data, where response functions were set as the input of ANN and the corresponding neutron spectra were output.

Cortisol is a glucocorticoid hormone that has immunosuppressive function. Elevated basal cortisol levels are present in patients with some kinds of cancers, but its role in the microenvironment of pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD) remains unclear. This study analyzed the expression of genes involved in cortisol generation by using high-throughput sequencing data from TCGA portal and found HSD11B1 was significantly upregulated in patients with PAAD.

Introduction: The effectiveness of therapy is strongly impacted by the resistance of lung cancer cells to cisplatin. The objective of this research is to characterize the impact of ailanthone on cisplatin resistance in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and examine any potential in vivo and in vitro molecular pathways.

Methods: Following treatment of A549/DDP cells with ailanthone and cisplatin, cell survival and apoptosis were measured using flow cytometry and Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK- 8) assays, respectively.

Herein, we described the rational drug design and synthesis of a series of 5-amino-4-fluoro-1-benzo[]imidazole-6-carboxamide derivatives that inhibit MEK and RAF kinases. The detailed screening cascades revealed that was a preferred compound, which might act like a "clamp" to stabilize the MEK/RAF complex, thereby effectively inhibiting MEK1, BRAF, and BRAF with IC values of 28, 3, and 3 nM, respectively. possessed an excellent selectivity over other 312 human-related kinases at 1 μM.

  • Fatigue negatively affects nurses' well-being and life satisfaction, but little research has focused on how coping styles can influence this relationship.
  • A study in Liaoning Province, China, surveyed 482 nurses and used questionnaires to assess fatigue, coping styles, and life satisfaction.
  • Findings revealed that active coping helps lessen the negative effects of mental fatigue on life satisfaction, suggesting that encouraging active coping strategies could improve nurses' overall well-being.

More than 6 million Americans are at risk for Alzheimer's Disease Related Dementias (ADRD), most of whom are 65 or older. The clock drawing test (CDT) is a quick, simple, and effective technique that has the potential advantage of self-management and screening for ADRD patients. Current CDT-based ADRD screening studies focus more on efficacy, involving many handcrafted features, ignoring data modalities, and lacking validation.

Current research does not fully elucidate the key compounds and their mechanisms that define the aroma profile of fresh jujube fruits. Therefore, this study conducted a comprehensive analysis of both free and glycosidically bound aroma compounds in fresh jujube fruits of ten cultivars. Utilizing gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), we identified 76 volatile free aroma compounds and 19 glycosidically bound volatile compounds, with esters, aldehydes, and ketones emerging as the predominant volatile compounds in the jujube fruits.

Lenvatinib (LVN) is a potentially effective multiple-targeted receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor approved for treating hepatocellular carcinoma, metastatic renal cell carcinoma and thyroid cancer. Nonetheless, poor pharmacokinetic properties including poor water solubility and rapid metabolic, complex tumor microenvironment, and drug resistance have impeded its satisfactory therapeutic efficacy. This article comprehensively reviews the uses of nanotechnology in LVN to improve antitumor effects.

Lung cancer is a malignant tumour with the highest incidence and mortality worldwide. Clinically effective therapy strategies are underutilized owing to the lack of efficient models for evaluating drug response. One of the main reasons for failure of anticancer drug therapy is development of drug resistance.

Jujube () exhibits a rich diversity in fruit shape, with natural occurrences of gourd-like, flattened, and other special shapes. Despite the ongoing research into fruit shape, studies integrating elliptical Fourier descriptors (EFDs) with both Short Time-series Expression Miner (STEM) and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) for gene discovery remain scarce. In this study, six cultivars of jujube fruits with distinct shapes were selected, and samples were collected from the fruit set period to the white mature stage across five time points for shape analysis and transcriptome studies.

Freezing is a serious problem that affects the power, transport, and transmission industries and is a major concern for the national economy and safety. Currently, several engineering de-icing methods, such as thermal, mechanical, and chemical de-icing, have shown problems related to energy consumption, efficiency, and the environment. Superhydrophobic materials have high droplet contact and roll angles, which can reduce the droplet residence and ice adhesion on their surfaces and have unique advantages in the self-cleaning and anti-icing fields.
