In the face of exponential data growth, DNA-based storage offers a promising solution for preserving big data. However, most existing DNA storage methods, akin to traditional block printing, require costly chemical synthesis for each individual data file, adopting a sequential, one-time-use synthesis approach. To overcome these limitations, a novel, cost-effective "DNA-movable-type storage" system, inspired by movable type printing, is introduced.

Background: The spleen aminopeptide oral solution (SAOS) is a solution containing a mixture of polypeptide amino acids and polynucleotides derived from healthy bovine spleen. This study aimed to establish a randomized controlled clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of SAOS for children with allergic rhinitis (AR) and adenoid hypertrophy (AH).

Methods: Children with AR and AH who visited the Otolaryngology Department of the Children's Hospital Affiliated with Fudan University between June 2022 and April 2023 were included.

Periodontal defects caused by severe periodontitis are a widespread issue globally. Guided tissue regeneration (GTR) using barrier membranes for alveolar bone repair is a common clinical treatment. However, most commercially available collagen barrier membranes are expensive and lack the antibacterial properties essential for effective bone regeneration.

Motivation: Molecular representation learning is pivotal for advancing deep learning applications in quantum chemistry and drug discovery. Existing methods for molecular representation learning often fall short of fully capturing the intricate interactions within chemical bonds of 2D topological graphs and the multifaceted effects of 3D geometric conformations.

Results: To overcome these challenges, we present a novel contrastive learning strategy for molecular representation learning, named Geometric Triangle Awareness Model (GTAM).

Purpose: To study the analgesic effects and side effects of a transdermal lappaconitine (TLA) patch, ibuprofen suspension (IS), and TLA combined with IS (TLACIS) after adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy.

Design: Prospective, randomized clinical trial.

Methods: The patients were randomized into three groups defined by different analgesic drug regimens: the TLA group, the IS group, and the TLACIS group.

Article Synopsis
  • - Chronic pain, particularly allodynia, is a significant health issue marked by painful reactions to normally non-painful stimuli, costing the U.S. around $600 billion in 2010.
  • - Allodynia is believed to result from an imbalance between excitatory and inhibitory signals in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord, involving specific neural subcircuits associated with static and dynamic pain.
  • - The study uses neural firing rate models to analyze these subcircuits, identifying that disruptions in pain signaling can stem from either reduced inhibition or increased excitation, leading to variability in allodynia mechanisms among different individuals.

Injectable hydrogels fabricated from natural polymers have attracted increasing attentions for their potential in biomedical application owing to the biocompatibility and biodegradability. A new class of natural polymer based self-healing hydrogel is constructed through dynamic covalent bonds. The injectable self-healing hydrogels are fabricated by introducing alginate aldehyde to form Schiff base bonds with the chitin nanofibers.

Clathrates are potential "phonon-glass, electron-crystal" thermoelectric semiconductors, whose structure of polyhedron stacks is very attractive. However, their mechanical properties have not yet met the requirements of industrial applications. Here, we report the ideal strength of element-substituted type-I and type-VIII clathrates and the shear deformation mechanism by using density functional theory.

The direct ink writing technique used in 3D printing technology is generally applied to designing biomedical hydrogels. Herein, we proposed a strategy for preparing all-chitin-based inks for wound dressing via direct ink writing technique. The β-chitin nanofibers (MACNF) with a high aspect ratio were applied as a nanofiller to modulate the rheological properties of the alkaline dissolved chitin solution.

Natural polymeric-based bioplastics usually lack good mechanical or processing performance. It is still challenging to achieve simultaneous improvement for these two usual trade-off features. Here, we demonstrate a full noncovalent mediated self-assembly design for simultaneously improving the chitinous bioplastic processing and mechanical properties via plane hot-pressing.

Thermosensors expressed in peripheral somatosensory neurons sense a wide range of environmental temperatures. While thermosensors detecting cool, warm and hot temperatures have all been extensively characterized, little is known about those sensing cold temperatures. Though several candidate cold sensors have been proposed, none has been demonstrated to mediate cold sensing in somatosensory neurons in vivo, leaving a knowledge gap in thermosensation.

Commercial collagen membranes face difficulty in guided bone regeneration (GBR) due to the absence of hierarchical structural design, effective interface management, and diverse bioactivity. Herein, a Janus membrane called SrJM is developed that consists of a porous collagen face to enhance osteogenic function and a dense face to maintain barrier function. Specifically, biomimetic intrafibrillar mineralization of collagen with strontium apatite is realized by liquid precursors of amorphous strontium phosphate.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to use a combination of radiomic indicators from CT imaging and machine learning (ML) techniques to distinguish between adrenal hematoma and adrenal neuroblastoma in neonates.
  • A total of 76 neonates were analyzed, with a training group and testing group, using various ML classifiers and deep learning models to assess their performance.
  • The results showed that the ML and DL models had high accuracy, with some models achieving area under the curve (AUC) scores above 0.96, indicating they could effectively differentiate between the two conditions better than clinical experts.

Superionic CuSe, with disordered and even liquid-like Cu ions, has been extensively studied as a high efficiency thermoelectric material. However, the relationship between lattice stability and microstructure evolution in CuSe under strain, which is crucial for its application, has seldom been explored in previous research. In this study, we investigate the impacts of hydrostatic compression strain on the microstructural evolution and, consequently, its implications for thermoelectric performance.
