Work to reduce environmental pollution from the health system is hampered by an absence of consensus on the definition of environmentally sustainable health care and the relevant measurement needed. This scoping review aims to encourage standardisation across sustainability efforts by examining how environmentally sustainable health care is defined and measured in current literature. We conducted a scoping review to identify candidate publications that included either a definition or description of environmentally sustainable health care or a measurement of the impact of health care on the environment.

Hence, suggesting effects on energy expenditure by possibly targeting mitochondria in metabolically active tissue.
Methods: Male rats with HFD-induced obesity received a DACRA, KBP-336, every third day for 8 weeks.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: To identify evidence-based interventions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in health-care systems in low- and middle-income countries and explore potential synergies from these interventions that aid climate change adaptation while mitigating emissions.
Methods: We systematically searched 11 electronic databases for articles published between 1990 and March 2023. We assessed risk of bias in each article and graded the quality of evidence across interventions in health-care operations, energy and supply chains.
Aim: To investigate effects of hormone replacement therapy in postmenopausal women on factors associated with metabolic flexibility related to whole-body parameters including fat oxidation, resting energy expenditure, body composition and plasma concentrations of fatty acids, glucose, insulin, cortisol, and lipids, and for the mitochondrial level, including mitochondrial content, respiratory capacity, efficiency, and hydrogen peroxide emission.
Methods: 22 postmenopausal women were included. 11 were undergoing estradiol and progestin treatment (HT), and 11 were matched non-treated controls (CONT).
Background: Statin therapy has shown pleiotropic effects affecting both mitochondrial function and inflammatory status. However, few studies have investigated the concurrent effects of statin exposure on mitochondrial function and inflammatory status in human subcutaneous white adipose tissue.
Objectives: In a cross-sectional study, we investigated the effects of simvastatin on mitochondrial function and inflammatory status in subcutaneous white adipose tissue of 55 human participants: 38 patients (19 females/19 males) in primary prevention with simvastatin (> 40 mg/d, > 3 mo) and 17 controls (9 females/8 males) with elevated plasma cholesterol.
Background: The aim of this study was to determine long-term survival and clinical outcomes of the surface replacement trapeziometacarpal joint prosthesis (SR™TMC) and to evaluate implant migration using radiostereometric analysis (RSA).
Methods: In this clinical long-term follow-up study outcomes of ten patients who received the SR™TMC joint prosthesis were evaluated using DASH and Nelson scores, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) of pain, and key pinch strength. RSA-radiographs were obtained direct postoperatively and 6 months, 1, 5 and 10 years postoperatively and were analyzed using model-based RSA software.
Objectives: The role of medical students in the current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is rapidly evolving. The aim of this review is to explore the involvement of medical students in past global health emergencies, to help inform current and future scenarios.
Methods: A rapid systematic review was undertaken, including articles from online databases discussing the roles, willingness and appropriateness of medical student involvement in global health emergencies.
Background and purpose - Radiostereometric analysis (RSA) is the gold standard to study micromotion of joint replacements. RSA requires the acquisition of additional radiographs increasing the radiation dose of patients included in RSA studies. It is important to keep this dose as low as possible.

Background: Ethnic differences in health commence early in life. Ethnic minority young adults have a greater prevalence of unhealthier lifestyles and poorer health outcomes than their peers. Variations in health literacy could contribute to these ethnic inequalities in health but have not yet been investigated in this group.

Methods: In five cadaveric hands the TMC-joint was replaced by the Surface Replacement Trapeziometacarpal prosthesis (SR™ TMC prosthesis; Avanta, San Diego, CA) and tantalum beads of 0.8 mm were implanted for RSA.
This paper focuses on initiatives to improve infant health, as they developed in Norway especially during the interwar period. Falling birth rates were felt as a menace to the survival of the nation and specific initiatives were taken to oppose it. But crises engendered by the reduction in fertility strengthened opportunities for introducing policies to help the fewer children born survive and grow up to become healthy citizens.

Here, we show that IL-20, a pleiotropic inflammatory cytokine, displays an imperative effect on vascular remodeling. Stimulation of both large and microvascular endothelial cells with IL-20 leads to activation of receptor-dependent multiple intracellular signaling components, including increased phosphorylation levels of JAK2/STAT5, Erk1/2, and Akt; activation of small GTP-binding proteins Rac and Rho; and intracellular release of calcium.

We now test the hypothesis that fetal responsiveness to betamethasone depends on the gestational age at which glucocorticoid therapy is started.
Design Of The Study: 1-h recordings of FHR (n=350) and fetal movements (n=310) made during a 5-day period (days 0-4) were available for analysis.
