Fgfr3 enhancer deletion markedly improves all skeletal features in a mouse model of achondroplasia.

Achondroplasia, the most prevalent short-stature disorder, is caused by missense variants overactivating the fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3). As current surgical and pharmaceutical treatments only partially improve some disease features, we sought to explore a genetic approach. We show that an enhancer located 29 kb upstream of mouse Fgfr3 (-29E) is sufficient to confer a transgenic mouse reporter with a domain of expression in cartilage matching that of Fgfr3.

Aim: Bacteria associated with harmful algal blooms can play a crucial role in regulating algal blooms in the environment. This study aimed at isolating and identifying algicidal bacteria in Dinoflagellate culture and to determine the optimum growth requirement of the algicidal bacteria, Loktanella sp. Gb-03.

Immediate hypersensitivity reactions after use of tuberculin skin testing.

This report describes the frequency and characteristics of serious or life-threatening hypersensitivity reactions to the tuberculin skin test over an 11-year period through November 2000. There were 24 reports and no deaths, indicating that such reactions are rare (0.08 reported reactions per million doses of tuberculin).

Imipenem/cilastatin for the treatment of infections in hospitalized children.

Imipenem is the first of a new class of beta-lactam antimicrobial agents with potent in vitro activity against most bacterial pathogens that cause infections in children. We studied, prospectively, the clinical efficacy and toxicity of imipenem/cilastatin in 40 children with proved or suspected bacterial infection. A dose of 100 mg/kg/day of imipenem was given to children younger than 3 years of age, while children older than 3 years of age received 60 mg/kg/day.
