BACKGROUND Crohn disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease known for causing fistulous tracts, abscesses, and bowel perforation. Enterohepatic fistulas, a rare but significant complication, are scarcely reported. This article presents the case of a hepatic abscess due to an enterohepatic fistula in a patient with long-term Crohn disease and reviews the existing literature on this phenomenon.

We report three patients with lethal forms of acute GVHD in whom all biopsy specimens showed a striking preponderance of macrophages in the inflammatory infiltrate with production of TNF-alpha. The role of the macrophage/TNF-alpha axis in human acute GVHD is examined and the existence of primary macrophagic forms of GVHD is discussed.

We report a case of pseudotumoral nodular lymphoid hyperplasia of the ileum in an immunocompetent 62-year-old woman. Ileoscopy showed multiple voluminous, soft, pliable, polypoid ileal lesions. Perendoscopic biopsies revealed a florid inflammation of the mucosa, characterised by numerous enlarged follicles with well-developed reactive germinal centres separated by a mixed infiltrate of lymphocytes, plasma cells and eosinophils.

Inflammatory genital cutaneous involvement of Crohn's disease is a rare complication. In a 23 year old man, who had colonic Crohn's disease treated by colectomy 3 years earlier, a phimosis revealed a penile localisation of Crohn's disease. "Metastatic" locations of Crohn's disease are defined by granulomas sitting at a distance from the injured bowel.

The CD44 cell surface molecule has been shown to be the principal cell surface receptor for hyaluronan (or hyaluronic acid), a glycosaminoglycan component of marrow extracellular matrix. However, its affinity for hyaluronan is not constitutive, since it depends on the cell type, the stage of differentiation and on activation by external stimuli including certain anti-CD44 antibodies and phorbol esters. Except for a few lymphoid cell lines, hematopoietic cells do not spontaneously bind hyaluronan and initial studies reported that, contrary to lymphocytes, myeloid cells could not be activated to bind hyaluronan.

Background & Aims: Eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EG) is characterized by an eosinophilic infiltration of the gastrointestinal tract. The mechanism for the intestinal recruitment of eosinophils in EG remains unknown. Eosinophil recruitment and activation is induced by three main cytokines: interleukin (IL) 3, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), and IL-5.

A mature cystic teratoma of the omentum occurred in a 37 years old woman who had an appendicectomy at the age of 8. This extragonadal teratoma contained a predominant mucinous glandular pattern of borderline malignancy, responsible for pseudomyxoma peritonei. Ovarian biopsies had only shown surface mucinous deposits at the time of the first laparotomy but two years later ovarian mucinous cystadenomas of borderline malignancy appeared.

The diagnosis of sarcoidosis requires histopathological analysis. Easy accessible site of biopsy is seldom. A systematic labial salivary gland biopsy was performed in 62 suspected sarcoidosis: 22 patients with Löfgren syndrome (group I), and 40 patients with systemic sarcoidosis (group II).
