Background: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of severe asthma (SA) treatments after 12 months in achieving clinical remission (CR) within the context of the Severe Asthma Network in Italy (SANI) using the recent SANI definition of CR on treatment.
Methods: CR has been defined by SANI as complete, partial, and no CR. Complete CR is defined by the absence of oral corticosteroids (OCS), no symptoms, no exacerbations, and stable lung function, and partial CR requires the absence of OCS and the fulfillment of 2 out of the other 3 criteria.
This retrospective population-based study investigated the impact of elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI) therapy on inhaled medication adherence in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF). Prescription refill rate (PRR) for several inhaled medications were compared before and after ETI introduction in three major Italian CF centers. We found a significant decrease in PRR for most inhaled antibiotics and dornase-alpha after ETI implementation.

This study reports the results of a national survey investigating management and treatment approaches of pre-school CFSPIDs in Italy.
Methods: In February 2024, a comprehensive questionnaire was distributed to all Italian CF centers.
Grape pomace (GP) is recognized as a valuable source of polyphenols, prompting research into new therapeutic molecules while enhancing this by-product value. To address low stability and bioavailability issues of phenolic compounds, lamellar solids emerge as a promising approach for their loading and stabilization in food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical applications. A solid phase adsorption procedure was developed here by comparing the properties of eight solids towards GP polyphenols.

Antibiotic prophylaxis during the surgical procedure is crucial for reducing early infections, though the current use of wide-spectrum antibiotics, especially in cases of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), is contentious and varies widely across centre. This practice raises concerns about antimicrobial resistance (AMR), particularly in immunosuppressed patients requiring lifelong healthcare access.

A comparison with bovine milk was also performed. A total of 30 subclasses of polar lipids, belonging mainly to glycerophospholipids and sphingolipids, and a total of 572 molecular species were identified.

This narrative review aims to analyse the available literature data concerning the safety of short-term steroid use in the treatment of sCAP, while also highlighting potential future research directions. Several trials and meta-analyses have evaluated corticosteroid therapy as an adjuvant treatment for sCAP, yielding heterogeneous results regarding its efficacy and safety.

Gastrointestinal involvement is relatively common in MS, but exclusive colonic localization is a rare occurrence. Here, we report on a 53-year-old male patient affected by AML developing a severe abdominal pain caused by intestinal perforation requiring surgical intervention.

Methods: This prospective cohort study included pwCF who initiated ETI therapy and had received antifungal treatment in the preceding five years due to allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA group) or other AF-related clinical manifestations (AF group). A control group of pwCF with no prior respiratory cultures positive for AF was also included.
Introduction: The burden of severe asthma on patients, especially on those with concomitant chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), is substantial. Treatment intensification with oral corticosteroids is a common strategy for managing severe asthma exacerbations; however, prolonged exposure to systemic corticosteroids is associated with multisystem toxicity. This study aimed to quantify the association between oral corticosteroid use and annual asthma-related costs in patients with severe asthma with or without CRSwNP.

To evaluate the prevalence of RV dysfunction by RVFWLS and its relationship with conventional RV echocardiographic indexes in LUTX candidates.
Methods: In a single-center prospective observational cohort study, from January 2021 to March 2023 consecutive LUTX candidates underwent cardiac catheterization, radionuclide ventriculography, standard and STE.
Over the last few years, COVID-19 has attracted medical attention both in terms of healthcare system reorganization and research. Among the different cardiovascular complications of the SARS-CoV-2 infection, cardiac arrhythmias represent an important clinical manifestation requiring proper therapy both in the acute and post-acute phase. The multiparametric in-hospital monitoring of COVID-19 patients frequently detects new-onset or recurrent cardiac arrhythmias.

The main applications of GP to the nutrition of different animals and the impact on derived foods (meat, milk and dairy products, eggs, fish) are discussed along with the major advantages and limits. Emphasis was placed on the phenols and fatty acids of GP, which are considered phytochemicals with health-promoting effects.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) patients are characterized by the presence of bronchiectasis filled with hyper-viscous secretions that constitute the ideal environment for infections. Although CF and IDs might share similarities in the pathophysiological mechanism of bronchiectasis development, they each offer different treatment options.

Cross-reactivity with other nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), including Mycobacterium abscessus, indicates that it may have a role as a broader screening test for nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD). NTM-PD is believed to be underdiagnosed in patients with bronchiectasis.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation among inflammatory biomarkers, such as the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and the recurrence of pleomorphic adenomas (PAs).
Study Design: This was a retrospective multicenter study. Six hundred eight patients diagnosed with PA and treated by tumor enucleation were included in the analyses.
