The commercial growing of white mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) is a frequent activity in certain Spain regions as La Rioja. We report two cases of white mushroom workers suffering from asthma caused by hypersensitivity to basidiocarp and spores of white mushroom.

[Unusual complications of cardiac catheterization via the radial artery].

Use of the radial artery for cardiac catheterization has significantly reduced the incidence and severity of complications at the access site. Nevertheless, occasionally unusual complications or atypical responses to treatment are observed. We describe two cases: a radial artery pseudoaneurysm that was unresponsive to compression treatment and a foreign-body inflammatory reaction at the radial artery access site.

Divergent selection for uterine capacity in rabbits. III. Responses in uterine capacity and its components estimated with a cryopreserved control population.

This work evaluated the response to 10 generations of divergent selection for uterine capacity (UC) in rabbits to determine whether this response was symmetric by contrasting both lines against a cryopreserved control population. Animals came from the 13th generation of an experiment of divergent selection for UC and from a cryopreserved control population. The two UC lines were divergently selected for 10 generations, and selection was relaxed from the 11th generation until the 13th generation.

Our objective was to evaluate the correlated responses to selection for litter size and its components after 10 generations of divergent selection for uterine capacity (UC). Is there a prognostic role of K-ras point mutations in the serum of patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer?

The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic significance of K-ras mutations in circulating DNA in advanced non-small lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Serum samples were assessed prior to platinum-based chemotherapy start in 67 patients with advanced NSCLC (stage IIIB or IV), treated between April 1999 and June 2002. Patients were not previously treated with chemotherapy.

The relationships between quantitative and reproductive fitness traits in animals are of general biological importance for the development of population genetic models and our understanding of evolution, and of great direct economical importance in the breeding of farm animals. Two well investigated quantitative traits--body weight (BW) and litter size (LS)--were chosen as the focus of our review. The genetic relationships between them are reviewed in fishes and several mammalian species.

Immediate hypersensitivity to quinolones: moxifloxacin cross-reactivity.

Introduction: Immediate hypersensitivity reactions to quinolones are rare. Moxifloxacin is an quinolone chemically different from other fluoroquinolones. We report 6 patients diagnosed with hypersensitivity to different fluoroquinolones in whom the response to moxifloxacin and cross-reactivity with other quinolones was studied.

Jacob's disease associated with temporomandibular joint dysfunction: a case report.

Jacob's disease is regarded a rare condition in which a joint formation is established between an enlarged mandibular coronoid process and the inner aspect of the zygomatic body. Chronic temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disk displacement has been proposed as etiological factor of coronoid process enlargement. We present a 23-year-old woman with long-standing TMJ dysfunction and restricted interincisal opening, who developed a progressive zygomatic asymmetry.

Phase II trial of the novel taxane BMS-184476 as second-line in non-small-cell lung cancer.

Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tolerability and efficacy of BMS-184476, an analog of paclitaxel, in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) progressing or relapsing following at least one prior chemotherapy regimen.

Patients And Methods: Fifty-six previously treated advanced NSCLC patients received BMS-184476 at a dose of 60 mg/m(2) administered intravenously over 1 h every 21 days.

Results: The median number of cycles delivered per patient was five (range one to 17).

Classical and Bayesian theories of hypothesis testing are compared and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed.

The aim of this work was to study the effects of the genotype of the dam, the embryo, or their interactions on prenatal growth by performing double-reciprocal embryo transfers between two lines of rabbits divergently selected for uterine capacity. Females from high (n = 53) and low (n = 48) lines were slaughtered at 72 h of gestation, and recovered embryos were transferred to the oviducts of recipient does from the high (n = 23) and low (n = 19) lines. Elliptical selection experiment for the estimation of genetic parameters of the growth rate and feed conversion ratio in rabbits.

Two elliptical selection experiments were performed in two contemporary sire lines of rabbits (C and R) in order to optimize the experimental design for estimating the genetic parameters of the growth rate (GR) and feed conversion ratio (FCR). A prospective and multicenter safety-monitoring study of a short up-dosing schedule of immunotherapy with a mass-units-standardized extract of mites.

A prospective, multicenter pharmacovigilance study was carried out to evaluate the safety of a new 7-dose treatment schedule of subcutaneous immunotherapy as opposed to the conventional 13 doses normally recommended. The study was carried out in 14 centers and included 261 patients (children and adults) with respiratory allergic disease due to sensitization to mites (Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and/or farinae). A total of 2290 doses were administered under the direct supervision of the participating specialists.

A hierarchical model for inferring the parameters of the joint distribution of a trait measured longitudinally and another assessed cross-sectionally, when selection has been applied to the cross-sectional trait, is presented. Distributions and methods for a Bayesian implementation via Markov Chain Monte Carlo procedures are discussed for the case where information about the selection criterion is available for all the individuals, but longitudinal records are available only in the later generations. Alternative specifications of the residual covariance structure are suggested.

Recently, the industrial and academic interest in the yeast Torulaspora delbrueckii has increased notably due to its high resistance to several stresses. This characteristic has made of this organism a very attractive model to study the molecular basis of the stress response in yeast. However, very little is known about the physiology and genetics of this yeast, and the tools for its manipulation have not been developed.

Papillary carcinoma arising in lingual thyroid.

Lingual thyroid is a well-known developmental abnormality, malignant transformation of which is rare. This is a case report of a papillary carcinoma located in ectopic lingual thyroid tissue, in a 28-year-old white male. A search of the literature revealed only one more such report.
