The commercial growing of white mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) is a frequent activity in certain Spain regions as La Rioja. We report two cases of white mushroom workers suffering from asthma caused by hypersensitivity to basidiocarp and spores of white mushroom.

Nevertheless, occasionally unusual complications or atypical responses to treatment are observed. We describe two cases: a radial artery pseudoaneurysm that was unresponsive to compression treatment and a foreign-body inflammatory reaction at the radial artery access site.

Animals came from the 13th generation of an experiment of divergent selection for UC and from a cryopreserved control population. The two UC lines were divergently selected for 10 generations, and selection was relaxed from the 11th generation until the 13th generation.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOur objective was to evaluate the correlated responses to selection for litter size and its components after 10 generations of divergent selection for uterine capacity (UC). A total of 294 intact females from the 11th and 12th generations of divergent selection for high and low UC and from a cryopreserved control population was used (139, 112, and 43 females, respectively). Uterine capacity was assessed as litter size in unilaterally ovariectomized females.

A total of 2,996 observations on uterine capacity of does (up to four parities) was recorded. Laparoscopy was performed at d 12 of their second gestation, and ovulation rate (OR) and number of implanted embryos (IE) were recorded in 735 does.

Serum samples were assessed prior to platinum-based chemotherapy start in 67 patients with advanced NSCLC (stage IIIB or IV), treated between April 1999 and June 2002. Patients were not previously treated with chemotherapy.

The relationships between quantitative and reproductive fitness traits in animals are of general biological importance for the development of population genetic models and our understanding of evolution, and of great direct economical importance in the breeding of farm animals. Two well investigated quantitative traits--body weight (BW) and litter size (LS)--were chosen as the focus of our review. The genetic relationships between them are reviewed in fishes and several mammalian species.

Introduction: Immediate hypersensitivity reactions to quinolones are rare. Moxifloxacin is an quinolone chemically different from other fluoroquinolones. We report 6 patients diagnosed with hypersensitivity to different fluoroquinolones in whom the response to moxifloxacin and cross-reactivity with other quinolones was studied.

Jacob's disease is regarded a rare condition in which a joint formation is established between an enlarged mandibular coronoid process and the inner aspect of the zygomatic body. Chronic temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disk displacement has been proposed as etiological factor of coronoid process enlargement. We present a 23-year-old woman with long-standing TMJ dysfunction and restricted interincisal opening, who developed a progressive zygomatic asymmetry.

Patients And Methods: Fifty-six previously treated advanced NSCLC patients received BMS-184476 at a dose of 60 mg/m(2) administered intravenously over 1 h every 21 days.
Results: The median number of cycles delivered per patient was five (range one to 17).
The effect of selection for growth rate on the sensory characteristics of rabbit meat was assessed by comparing a selected and a control population of rabbits. Embryos belonging to generation 7th were frozen, thawed and implanted in does in order to produce the control group. The control group was formed from the offspring of the embryos belonging to the 7th generation.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA Bayesian approach to meat quality analyses is discussed and compared with the classical statistical approach. Inferences from means, medians and modes of marginal posterior distributions are presented, and a variety of probability inferences and confidence intervals are presented and discussed. Classical and Bayesian theories of hypothesis testing are compared and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed.

Embryos belonging to Generation 7 were frozen, thawed, and implanted in does to produce the control group. The control group was formed from the offspring of the embryos belonging to the Generation 7.

Females from high (n = 53) and low (n = 48) lines were slaughtered at 72 h of gestation, and recovered embryos were transferred to the oviducts of recipient does from the high (n = 23) and low (n = 19) lines. Each recipient doe received eight embryos from the high line into one oviduct and eight embryos from the low line into the other.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTwo elliptical selection experiments were performed in two contemporary sire lines of rabbits (C and R) in order to optimize the experimental design for estimating the genetic parameters of the growth rate (GR) and feed conversion ratio (FCR). Twelve males and 19 females from line C, and 13 males and 23 females from line R, were selected from an ellipse defined by a quadratic index based on these traits. Data from 160 rabbits of each of the parental generations of lines C and R and their offspring (275 and 266 animals, respectively) were used for the analysis.
