Based on an ensemble of four downscaled and bias corrected combinations of Global and Regional Climate Models (GCM-RCMs), the deterministic distributed water balance model mGROWA was used to simulate long-term mean annual groundwater recharge in the catchment for four 30-year periods between 1981 and 2100. The four employed GCM-RCM combinations project an adverse climatic development for the study area: by the period 2071-2100, annual rainfall will decrease considerably, while grass reference evapotranspiration will rise.

A number of non-organ-specific autoantibodies, such as antibodies to vimentin, centriole, the midbody of chromatin and the Golgi apparatus, were detected in the sera of patients with infectious mononucleosis or nasopharyngeal carcinoma, by using an indirect immunofluorescence technique. There was no significant correlation between the titers of anti-Epstein-Barr virus antibodies and those of autoantibodies. Our findings suggest that the autoantibody production is antigen-driven.

The prevalence was significantly raised in SLE (38% and 50% of sera positive for IgM-AVA and IgG-AVA, respectively, by immunofluorescence; 36% and 64% of sera positive for IgM-AVA and IgG-AVA, respectively, by ELISA) in comparison with the control sera. A significant correlation existed between IgM-AVA, on the one hand, and anticardiolipin antibodies (ACA) and anti-single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), on the other.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe peripheral blood from 15 patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome and from 15 matched controls was examined for the presence of activated T and B lymphocytes, by using monoclonal antibodies directed to interleukin-2 (IL-2) and transferrin receptors, and to HLA-DR determinants. The number of circulating positive-T cells was significantly greater in the patients than in the controls, irrespective of disease activity. There were more of the CD8 cells than of the CD4 cells that expressed IL-2 receptors.
