Introduction: Eslicarbazepine acetate is a novel sodium channel blocker for use in the treatment of focal onset seizures. Prospective studies on its effectiveness in monotherapy in patients with newly diagnosed partial epilepsy in routine clinical practice are scarce.
Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of eslicarbazepine as initial monotherapy in patients with newly diagnosed partial epilepsy in routine clinical practice.
Objective: To identify novel genetic mechanisms causing Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease.
Methods: We performed a next-generation sequencing study of 34 genes associated with CMT in a patient with peripheral neuropathy.
Results: We found a non-previously described mutation in EGR2 (p.

Aim: To compare the diagnostic validity of NIA-AA criteria, for AD CSF biomarkers, with our own new criteria.
Materials And Methods: Between 2008 and 2011, 170 patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) were included. CSF levels of Aβ1-42, T-tau, P-tau181, and ratios of T-tau/Aβ1-42 and P-tau181/Aβ1-42 were analyzed.
Introduction: Pathologies related to lymphocyte infiltration and inflammatory cells are classified, according to their topography, into idiopathic orbital pathology, idiopathic hypertrophic pachymeningitis, Tolosa-Hunt syndrome and lymphocytic hypophysitis. Here we review the case of a female patient who began with lymphocytic hypophysitis eight years ago and has since presented several episodes of hypertrophic pachymeningitis in a variety of locations.
Case Report: Our study involves a 55-year-old female, being monitored owing to a two-month history of headaches, who was admitted to hospital as the result of a deterioration of her clinical signs and symptoms with paralysis of the whole right-side third cranial nerve, watery eyes and rhinorrhea.
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease (AD) are currently being assessed with two different assays. Our objective was to study if there is a correlation between values obtained by both techniques, to compare their validity and search for conversion factor between values obtained for every protein. We compared the performances of two commonly used platforms, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and a multiplex (xMAP) technology for measurement of CSF Aβ 1-42, total tau (T-tau), and phosphorylated tau 181 (P-tau 181p) proteins, in 30 AD patients and 28 control subjects.

Materials And Methods: Between 2008 and 2010, 67 subjects without cognitive or behavioral disorders were included as a control group in a study on CSF-AD-BMK. Neuropsychological assessment at baseline and at follow-up had been carried out 2 years later.
Introduction: The goals of this study were to compare the early diagnostic utility of Alzheimer disease biomarkers in the CSF with those in brain MRI in conditions found in our clinical practice, and to ascertain the diagnostic accuracy of both techniques used together.
Methods: Between 2008 and 2009, we included 30 patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who were examined using 1.5 Tesla brain MRI and AD biomarker analysis in CSF.
Congestive heart failure (HF) remains a major and growing public health problem despite recent therapeutical developments. Thirty to sixty percent of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) die suddenly from cardiac arrhythmias. Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) and implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) therapy are effective treatments for HF with a wide QRS and for ventricular arrhythmias respectively.

On the grounds of new surgical techniques and development of new materials for pacemakers, as well as the rise of Ambulatory Surgery and its application in pacemaker implants, the hospital stay and consequently, costs have decreased significantly. In 1986, Zegelman reported 583 patients subjected to ambulatory pacemaker surgery without mortality.

In this article we describe the long-term outcome of 100 patients from our hospital (National Medical Center "20 de Noviembre" ISSSTE, Mexico City), who were treated with this procedure. Average follow-up was 38.

In these patients an epicardial permanent pacemaker is frequently used but its insertion is another major operation and higher thresholds are needed. Two patients are reported, both women, with rheumatic heart disease and TVR who required a permanent pacemaker because they developed CHB.

We present the case of a 17-years old youngster coursing with a dilated Fallot's tetralogy, in terminal stage, who was subjected to an orthotopic heart transplantation. We present the most relevant data on his management during the 53 months after the surgery and discuss the long-term perspectives, which are comparable to those expected in transplanted patients due to other cardiac disorders.

We report the first two cases in Mexico treated with biatrial pacing for PAF. The first was treated with a three chamber pacemaker and the other with a four chamber pacemaker.

The patient had been previously studied and operated thrice under conventional circumstances at different institutions in order to solve the septal defect. The hemodynamic solution had not been reached due to a missing pathological definition.
