Climate change alters multiple abiotic environmental factors in aquatic environments but relatively little is known about their interacting impacts, particularly in developing organisms where these exposures have the potential to cause long-lasting effects. To explore these issues, we exposed developing killifish embryos (Fundulus heteroclitus) to 26 °C or 20 °C and 20 ppt or 3 ppt salinity in a fully-factorial design. After hatching, fish were transferred to common conditions of 20 °C and 20 ppt to assess the potential for persistent developmental plasticity.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection occurs predominantly in women and is associated with fibromuscular dysplasia. We illustrate a rare case of sudden coronary death as a result of cardiac rupture from spontaneous coronary artery dissection in a 54-year-old man without fibromuscular dysplasia. Cardiac rupture has been previously reported in 6 cases, mostly in women.

Here, using a large set of autopsies from the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging (BLSA) and another younger cohort, we were able to study brains from subjects 21-109 years of age.

Initially, the patient exhibited multiple musculoskeletal symptoms, which raised concerns about alternative causes such as cauda equina syndrome or spinal epidural hematoma. Despite vascular surgery removing the device, the patient's condition deteriorated due to ischemia leading to multisystem organ failure.

Climate change-induced warming effects are already evident in river ecosystems, and projected increases in temperature will continue to amplify stress on fish communities. In addition, many rivers globally are impacted by dams, which have many negative effects on fishes by altering flow, blocking fish passage, and changing sediment composition. AbstractDetermining the resilience of a species or population to climate change stressors is an important but difficult task because resilience can be affected both by genetically based variation and by various types of phenotypic plasticity. In addition, most of what is known about organismal responses is for single stressors in isolation, but environmental change involves multiple environmental factors acting in combination. Here, our goal is to summarize what is known about phenotypic plasticity in fishes in response to high temperature and low oxygen (hypoxia) in combination across multiple timescales, to ask how much resilience plasticity may provide in the face of climate change.

Two Cases of Suspected Poisoning With Goat's Rue (Galega officinalis L.) in Horses.

The present report describes two novel cases of suspected intoxication with Galega officinalis in 6- and 21-year-old Arabian mares displaying acute respiratory signs. Both animals showed signs of pulmonary edema at physical examination, with the oldest of the two also manifesting severe dyspnea and foamy nasal discharge. The mares were grazing on the same meadow with hay available ad libitum.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of cell therapy with chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-modified T cells for refractory leukemia. The widespread commercial approval of genetically engineered T cells for a variety of blood cancers offers hope for patients with other types of cancer, and the convergence of human genome engineering and cell therapy technology holds great potential for generation of a new class of cellular therapeutics. In this Review, we discuss the goals of cellular immunotherapy in cancer, key challenges facing the field and exciting strategies that are emerging to overcome these obstacles.

Gene expression and latitudinal variation in the stress response in Fundulus heteroclitus.

Atlantic killifish, Fundulus heteroclitus, are intertidal marsh fish found along the east coast of North America. Associated with the thermal gradient along this coast, northern and southern killifish populations are known to differ in morphology, behavior, and physiology, including in their cortisol stress response. Our goal was to explore population differences in the stress response and identify underlying molecular mechanisms.
