We report on the rotational diffusion dynamics of three chromophores (disodium fluorescein, oxazine 725, and perylene) in a series of choline chloride-ethylene glycol (ChCl:EG) deep eutectic solvent (DES) systems. We observe behavior independent of DES bulk viscosity for the cationic and neutral probes and behavior that is consistent with stick-limit interactions for the modified Debye-Stokes-Einstein model for the anionic probe. This finding indicates that the anionic species is integral to the interactions between DES constituent species that are responsible for local organization, consistent with previous MD simulations that showed higher interaction energies associated with both the hydrogen bond donor (EG) and hydrogen bond acceptor (Ch) interactions with Cl in ChCl:EG mixtures.

Cr and Cr ions are shown to mediate the formation, morphology, and organization of arachidic acid (AA) Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monolayers. This finding, based on cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) measurements, show that Langmuir monolayer formation depends on subphase pH and metal ion concentration. Following monolayer deposition on indium tin oxide (ITO), the LB monolayer organization can be modified reversibly through control of the Cr oxidation state, which has not been shown before by other monolayers formed with other divalent metal ions.

The conductivity of room temperature ionic liquids is not described adequately by the Nernst-Einstein equation, which accounts only for Brownian motion of the ions. We report on the conductivity of the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolum bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide (BMIM TFSI), comparing the known conductivity of this RTIL to the diffusion constants of the cationic and anionic species over a range of length scales, using time-resolved fluorescence depolarization and fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) measurements of chromophores in the RTIL. Our data demonstrate that the diffusional contribution to molar conductivity is 50%.

As tissues grow and change shape during animal development, they physically pull and push on each other, and these mechanical interactions can be important for morphogenesis. During Drosophila gastrulation, mesoderm invagination temporally overlaps with the convergence and extension of the ectodermal germband; the latter is caused primarily by Myosin II-driven polarised cell intercalation. Here, we investigate the impact of mesoderm invagination on ectoderm extension, examining possible mechanical and mechanotransductive effects on Myosin II recruitment and polarised cell intercalation.

The planar orientation of cell division (OCD) is important for epithelial morphogenesis and homeostasis. Here, we ask how mechanics and antero-posterior (AP) patterning combine to influence the first divisions after gastrulation in the Drosophila embryonic epithelium. We analyse hundreds of cell divisions and show that stress anisotropy, notably from compressive forces, can reorient division directly in metaphase.

We reported recently that two imidazolium room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) exhibit the direct piezoelectric effect (, , 14, 2731-2735). We have subsequently investigated several other RTILs with pyrrolidinium and imidazolium cations and tetrafluoroborate and bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide anions in an effort to gain insight into the generality and mechanism of the effect. All the RTILs studied exhibit the direct piezoelectric effect, with a magnitude () and threshold force that depend on the structures of both the cation and anion.

Indium tin oxide (ITO) has been extensively used as a transparent conductor. The surface chemistry of ITO is amenable to reactions similar to those used to modify silica, but a long-standing issue has been understanding the density and robustness of the ITO surface-modification. We report on the formation of chemically bound Cd-complexed octadecylphosphonic acid (ODPA) monolayer formed on a Langmuir trough and deposited using Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) methodology onto an ITO surface, either in its native form or functionalized with phosphonate (RPO).

In patients infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, vasculopathic changes of the skin are associated with a severe prognosis. However, the pathogenesis of this vasculopathy is not conclusively clarified. Primary cutaneous B-cell lymphomas (CBCL) are a heterogeneous group of B-cell lymphomas without evidence of extracutaneous disease at the time of diagnosis. The 2022 World Health Organization classification of mature lymphoid neoplasms differentiates the indolent primary cutaneous marginal zone lymphoproliferative disorder, primary cutaneous follicle center lymphoma and Epstein-Barr virus-positive mucocutaneous ulcer, from the more aggressive primary cutaneous diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, leg-type and intravascular large B-cell lymphoma. The new updates in the 2022 classification are based on recent scientific advances in the understanding and characterization of these entities.

The influence of the Sn(II) ion on the formation and morphology of an arachidic acid (AA) monolayer was investigated using Langmuir film formation technology, pressure-area (Π-) isotherm measurements, and Brewster angle microscopy (BAM). Our findings indicate that AA Langmuir monolayers exhibit organization that depends on subphase pH and Sn concentration. There are multiple equilibria that are relevant to the complexation of AA monolayers, and the balance of Sn(OH) equilibria and Sn(AA) equilibria gives rise to unusual monolayer structural effects.

We report on dilution-dependent changes in the local environments of chromophores incorporated into room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL)-molecular solvent binary systems where the ionic liquid cation and molecular solvent possess the same alkyl chain length. We have used the RTIL 1-decyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (DMPyrrTFSI) and the molecular solvent 1-decanol. Perylene was used as a non-polar probe, and cresyl violet (CV) was used as a polar probe chromophore.

A 39-year-old man presented with an asymmetric distal weakness and loss of sensitivity sequentially affecting both lower extremities and the left upper limb. Nerve conduction studies showed a multifocal sensory and motor axonal neuropathy, and a pseudo-conduction block of the right fibular nerve, the whole being consistent with a mononeuropathy multiplex. An uncommon etiology was found after an extensive workup.

This study describes the development, mapping, rating, and review of the implementation strategies for the Care to Quit smoking cessation trial, prior to application in nine cancer services across Australia.
