Ultrasound-guided Retrieval of Mature Oocytes for Fertility Preservation During Laparoscopic Oophorectomy: A Case Report.

Background: Cryopreservation of oocytes is an efficient method of fertility preservation (FP) that can be applied in women suffering from gynecologic conditions that menace their reproductive future. Collection of oocytes becomes challenging in some scenarios, like the possibility of an ovarian cancer, the "" harvest of oocytes for FP, aspirating follicles directly from the ovarian specimen already excised by laparotomy or laparoscopy and it is an option for these cases.

Case Presentation: In the present case report, the case of a patient with an adnexal mass suspected to be a recurrent teratoma was described who referred to our Assisted Reproduction Unit in Hospital Quironsalud Malaga for FP counseling.

[Letal endocarditis due to Corynebacterium pseudodiphtheriticum].

We present a case report of a infective endocarditis by Corynebacterium pseudodiphtheriticum in a young patient eight years old with bicuspid aortic valve that led to a severe neurological embolism and death. Corynebacterium pseudodiphtheriticum is part of the nasopharyngeal and skin flora. However, there are cases reported of endocarditis usually associated with immunocompromised patients that mostly presented a poor clinical outcome.

Calmodulin 2 Mutation N98S Is Associated with Unexplained Cardiac Arrest in Infants Due to Low Clinical Penetrance Electrical Disorders.

Background: Calmodulin 1, 2 and 3 (CALM) mutations have been found to cause cardiac arrest in children at a very early age. The underlying aetiology described is long QT syndrome (LQTS), catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) and idiopathic ventricular fibrillation (IVF). Little phenotypical data about CALM2 mutations is available.

Cisplatin reduces endothelial cell migration via regulation of type 2-matrix metalloproteinase activity.

Aims: In this study we investigated the effect of cisplatin on endothelial cell migration, an essential process for vascular remodeling and regeneration in several physiological and pathological situations.

Material And Methods: Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) were treated with cisplatin and endothelial cell migration analyzed by fluorescence and scratch-wound migration assay. MMP2 and MMP9 activity were determined by zymographic assay, and MAPK activation by Western blotting analysis.

P2Y receptors activate MAPK/ERK through a pathway involving PI3K/PDK1/PKC-zeta in human vein endothelial cells.

Aims: In this study we investigated the effects of P2 receptors in the regulation of mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (MAPK/ERK) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC).

Methods: Cytosolic Ca(2+) concentration ([Ca(2+)](i)) was measured using fura-2/AM, and MAPK/ ERK phosphorylation using Western blot analysis.

Results: ATP, 2-meSATP, UTP and UDP cause a rapid and transitory increase in the phosphorylation of MAPK/ERK.

Angiotensin II induces focal adhesion kinase/paxillin phosphorylation and cell migration in human umbilical vein endothelial cells.

In the present study, we demonstrated that Ang II provokes a transitory enhancement of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and paxillin phosphorylation in human umbilical endothelial cells (HUVEC). Moreover, Ang II induces a time- and dose-dependent augmentation in cell migration, but does not affect HUVEC proliferation. The effect of Ang II on FAK and paxillin phosphorylation was markedly attenuated in cells pretreated with wortmannin and LY294002, indicating that phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) plays an important role in regulating FAK activation.

Effects of metabolic control on vitamin E nutritional status in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of the metabolic control of the insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) on the nutritional status of vitamin E.

Methods: A total of 47 children with IDDM and a mean age of 11.91+/-1.

Objective: A case-control study was conducted to evaluate the effects of type 1 diabetes mellitus (IDDM) on plasma levels of vitamin A (retinol) and serum levels of retinol-binding protein (RBP) and their relationship with the atherogenic indicators.

Subjects: A total of 47 randomised IDDM children were recruited from those treated at the Endocrinology Unit of the University Hospital of Granada (Spain). They were matched for age and sex with 16 healthy children.

The diet of the breast-feeding mother impacts on the quality and quantity of the milk that she feeds her child. Milk can be a vehicle for toxins, such as drugs and their metabolites, viruses, nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, and organochlorine molecules such as PCBs, DDT, HCB, HCH and dioxins, which can harm the health of the breast-feeding child. The 24-h recall diet was considered appropriate to adequately study the diet of breast-feeding mothers and was used in the present preliminary study to establish the possible relationship between the food items consumed and the presence of pesticides in her milk.

Partial specific volume of hyaluronic acid in different media and conditions.

Density measurements of hyaluronic acid in different media and conditions have been made in order to determine the partial specific volumes, v0(2). We have studied the effects of temperature, type of cation, cation concentration, pH and solvent polarity on v0(2).
