Unlabelled: This study explores virus-host dynamics in a unique environment: an industrial high-rate algal pond (HRAP). A wealth of novel DNA algal viruses are revealed, including members of "giant viruses" and the enigmatic (e.g.

Methods And Results: We enrolled 155 patients admitted for a first AMI requiring percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Baseline characteristics, laboratory test results, and cardiac ultrasound examinations were collected at pre-PCI (H0), immediately post-PCI (H24), at discharge (D3), and at 6 months (M6) and 12 months (M12) post-PCI.
Objective: To ascertain the effect of curative-intent surgery on loss of independence (LOI) in patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC).
Study Design: Retrospective observational study of patients diagnosed from 2014 to 2021.
Setting: Single tertiary care academic center.
Background: There has been an increasing number of Canadian medical graduates who have gone unmatched in the residency selection process. Medical students have been engaging in extracurricular activities outside the formal curriculum which may help to distinguish themselves from their peers in the selection process. To understand how competitiveness in residency selection shapes applicant demographic characteristics and behaviours, this study set out to explore the demographic characteristics and prevalence of reported extra-curricular activities by applicants to Canadian Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery (OTL-HNS) residency across time.

Empirical research, however, is often based on discrete-time models that assume that sporadic measurement occasions fully capture underlying long-term continuous processes of risk.
Methods: We propose (i) the functional relevant life course model (fRLM), which treats repeated, discrete measures of risk as unobserved continuous processes, and (ii) a testing procedure to assign probabilities that the data correspond to conceptual models of life course epidemiology (critical period, sensitive period and accumulation models).
Background At follow-up CT after left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO), hypoattenuation thickening (HAT) on the atrial aspect of the device is a common finding but the clinical implications require further study. Purpose To assess the association of HAT grade at follow-up CT with clinical characteristics and outcomes in patients who underwent LAAO. Materials and Methods This prospective study included consecutive participants with atrial fibrillation and who were at high risk for stroke (CHADS-VASc score ≥4) who underwent LAAO and were administered pacifier or nonpacifier devices at two French medical centers between January 2012 and November 2020.

Background: Hyaluronic acid is synthesised in plasma membranes and can be found in extracellular tissues. It has been suggested that the application of hyaluronic acid to chronic wounds may promote healing, and the mechanism may be due to its ability to maintain a moist wound environment which helps cell migration in the wound bed.
Objectives: To evaluate the effects of hyaluronic acid (and its derivatives) on the healing of chronic wounds.
Background: Due to the complexity of the provision of care for people with dementia, pain assessment and management is still considered to be lacking. An optimal way to support frontline staff in providing pain assessment and management for people with dementia living in nursing homes has not yet been identified. The success of supporting interventions seems dependent on contextual factors in the nursing homes.

Very close measurements lead to crosstalk issues, which can be fixed by wavelength multiplexing. The benefits of our 16 wavelengths photonic Doppler velocimetry system over conventional systems are demonstrated here.

We identified a significant number of genes sharing a higher sequence similarity with viral homologues, thus signalling their possible involvement in horizontal gene transfers with viruses. Further characterization showed that many of these genes were clustered in DNA regions of several tens to hundreds of kilobases in size, originally belonging to viruses related to known spp.

Its typical location is in the head and neck, although it has also been described at the abdominal level. It may not be evident in the first stages of life and its first manifestation may be a complication such as abdominal distension, hemorrhage, or sepsis, which may put the patient's life at risk.

Large spectroscopic surveys of distant galaxies now exist, but their sensitivity depends mainly on a galaxy's star-formation activity and dust content rather than its mass. Tracers of massive protoclusters that do not rely on their galaxy constituents are therefore needed.

Aims: To investigate the feasibility, safety, and effectiveness of a long-term support by a new available device (IVAC2L) in pigs.
Estuaries are complex systems involving numerous biogeochemical gradients and processes that influence the behavior of trace metals. Lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and copper (Cu) speciation and partitioning were studied in the Gironde Estuary (SW France), using a multi-method approach in which data from innovative sensors and laboratory-based techniques were combined. For the first time in this system, the so-called dynamic fractions of the target metals (dissolved forms that are potentially bioavailable) were recorded on-board through voltammetry using unique antifouling gel-integrated microelectrode arrays (GIME) incorporated in a submersible sensing probe (TracMetal).

A critical review of existing work in different disciplines addressing the multi-metal contamination of the Gironde Watershed, a major fluvial-estuarine model system representative of many other systems worldwide, has provided a condensed, yet pertinent overview on various aspects of this environmental problem. Combining long-term observation and contamination records from different environmental archives, there is a clear trend towards resilience for the main historical contaminants (Cd, Zn, Pb and Cu), yet suggesting that resilience needs appropriate management of both, tailings as the initial source and contaminated sediments acting as temporary metal traps which may transform into delayed sources.

The CEA operates several High-Pulsed Power (HPP) drivers for dynamic loading experiments. The aim of these experiments is to provide quantitative information about the response of various materials of interest, mainly under quasi-isentropic compression. In order to improve our ability to explore these materials' behavior over a wide range of thermodynamic paths and starting from various non-ambient conditions, we developed a device capable of pre-heating both metallic and nonmetallic samples up to several hundred degrees prior to loading.

To characterize the diversity and evolution of this novel viral genus, we report here on the isolation and genome sequencing of a second strain of , namely LCC10. Detailed analysis of the sequencing data suggested that its 362-Kb genome is linear with covalently closed hairpin termini, so that DNA forms a single continuous polynucleotide chain.

This is particularly true for the ochrophytes, a diverse and important group of algae. Previous studies have shown that ochrophytes possess a mosaic of genes derived from bacteria and eukaryotic algae, acquired through chloroplast endosymbiosis and from HGTs, although understanding of the time points and mechanisms underpinning these transfers has been restricted by the depth of taxonomic sampling possible.
