Disentangling Sources of Momentum Fluctuations in Xe+Xe and Pb+Pb Collisions with the ATLAS Detector.

High-energy nuclear collisions create a quark-gluon plasma, whose initial condition and subsequent expansion vary from event to event, impacting the distribution of the eventwise average transverse momentum [P([p_{T}])]. Disentangling the contributions from fluctuations in the nuclear overlap size (geometrical component) and other sources at a fixed size (intrinsic component) remains a challenge. This problem is addressed by measuring the mean, variance, and skewness of P([p_{T}]) in ^{208}Pb+^{208}Pb and ^{129}Xe+^{129}Xe collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.

Impact of acetylsalicylic acid on perioperative bleeding complications in deceased donor kidney transplantation.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate the perioperative outcomes and complications associated with the use of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) in deceased donor kidney transplantation (KTX), with a particular focus on bleeding events.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 157 kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) who underwent KTX at Charité Berlin, Department for Urology, between February 2014 and December 2017. Patients were divided into two groups: patients with ASA in their preoperative medication (Group A, n = 59) and patients without ASA use (Group B, n = 98).

Clinical Manifestations.

Background: Previous findings evaluating longitudinal cognition in relation to the MeDi diet are inconsistent, and few studies have examined it in relation to the presence/absence of subjective cognitive decline (SCD). Our current aims are to test whether adherence to the MeDi diet is associated with the risk of clinical progression, future cognitive decline, and atrophy over time in Alzheimer's disease (AD)-sensitive regions in cognitively unimpaired (CU) older adults with or without SCD.

Methods: This longitudinal study includes 171 controls and 228 SCD patients recruited from memory clinics in the DELCODE study.

We report the precise measurements of the cross section of e^{+}e^{-}→hadrons at center-of-mass energies from 3.645 to 3.871 GeV.

Clinical Manifestations.

Background: The identification of cognitively unimpaired individuals at risk of short-term cognitive decline is a critical task for Alzheimer´s disease (AD) research. Cognitively normal individuals with amyloid and/or tau pathology have a high risk for short-term cognitive decline. However, not all of these individuals show clinical progression.

Evaluation of Phoenix Sepsis Score Criteria: Exploratory Analysis of Characteristics and Outcomes in an Emergency Transport PICU Cohort From the United Kingdom, 2014-2016.

Objectives: To assess characteristics and outcomes of children with suspected or confirmed infection requiring emergency transport and PICU admission and to explore the association between the 2024 Phoenix Sepsis Score (PSS) criteria and mortality.

Design: Retrospective analysis of curated data from a 2014-2016 multicenter cohort study.

Setting: PICU admission following emergency transport in South East England, United Kingdom, from April 2014 to December 2016.

Comorbid conditions and survival among Black women with ovarian cancer.

Background: Black women with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) have worse survival and a higher burden of comorbid conditions compared with other racial groups. This study examines the association of comorbid conditions and medication use for these conditions with survival among Black women with EOC.

Methods: In a prospective study of 592 Black women with EOC, the Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) based on self-reported data, three cardiometabolic comorbidities (type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia), and medication use for each cardiometabolic comorbidity were evaluated.

Cohesin positions the epigenetic reader Phf2 within the genome.

Genomic DNA is assembled into chromatin by histones, and extruded into loops by cohesin. These mechanisms control important genomic functions, but whether histones and cohesin cooperate in genome regulation is poorly understood. Here we identify Phf2, a member of the Jumonji-C family of histone demethylases, as a cohesin-interacting protein.

Cognitive, behavioral, and functional outcomes of suspected mild traumatic brain injury in community-dwelling older persons without mild cognitive impairment or dementia.

Introduction: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is associated with greater risk and earlier onset of dementia. This study investigated whether later-life changes in subjective cognition and behavior - potential markers of AD - could be observed in cognitively unimpaired older persons with a history of suspected mild TBI (smTBI) earlier in life and whether changes in cognition and behavior mediated the link between smTBI and daily function.

Methods: Data for 1392 participants from the Canadian Platform for Research Online to Investigate Health, Quality of Life, Cognition, Behaviour, Function, and Caregiving in Aging (CAN-PROTECT) were analyzed.

Artificial Intelligence-Enhanced Electrocardiography for Prediction of Incident Hypertension.

Importance: Hypertension underpins significant global morbidity and mortality. Early lifestyle intervention and treatment are effective in reducing adverse outcomes. Artificial intelligence-enhanced electrocardiography (AI-ECG) has been shown to identify a broad spectrum of subclinical disease and may be useful for predicting incident hypertension.

Exclusion of people from oncology clinical trials based on functional status.

Background/aims: People with disability have higher rates of cancer, excluding skin cancer, compared with people without disability. Food and Drug Administration draft guidelines from 2024 address use of performance status criteria to determine eligibility for clinical trials, advocating for less restrictive thresholds. We examined the exclusion of people with disability from clinical trials based on performance status and other criteria.

Hypoxic conditions affect transcriptome of endometrial stromal cells in endometriosis and promote TGFBI axis.

Background: Endometriosis is characterized by the ectopic growth of endometrial-like cells, causing chronic pelvic pain, adhesions and impaired fertility in women of reproductive age. Usually, these lesions grow in the peritoneal cavity in a hypoxic environment. Hypoxia is known to affect gene expression and protein kinase (PK) activity.

Subphenotypes of body composition and their association with cardiometabolic risk - Magnetic resonance imaging in a population-based sample.

Background: For characterizing health states, fat distribution is more informative than overall body size. We used population-based whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to identify distinct body composition subphenotypes and characterize associations with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk.

Methods: Bone marrow, visceral, subcutaneous, cardiac, renal, hepatic, skeletal muscle and pancreatic adipose tissue were measured by MRI in n = 299 individuals from the population-based KORA cohort.

Persistent organic pollutants and endogenous sex-related hormones in Hispanic/Latino adults: The Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL).

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated associations of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) with sex-related hormones; however, findings were inconsistent. Sex-specific impacts and pathways through which adiposity influences associations are not completely understood. We sought to evaluate sex-specific associations of POPs serum concentration with sex-related hormones and to explore pathways through which adiposity may modify associations.

Characterization of craniofacial tissue aging in genetically diverse HET3 male mice with longevity treatment of 17-alpha estradiol.

Objective: The objective of our study was to 1) characterize craniofacial tissue aging in the new, genetically diverse HET3 mouse model; and 2) ascertain whether increased longevity with 17-alpha estradiol (17αE2) treatment in male mice also improved the health of these tissues. The HET3 mice are a four-strain cross preferred and recommended by the National Institute of Aging to identify longevity treatments and test their ability to reduce age-related pathologies. Previous reports demonstrated increased longevity in male, but not female, HET3 mice with 17αE2 administration.

High-dose intravenous BCG vaccination induces enhanced immune signaling in the airways.

Intradermal Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is the most widely administered vaccine, but it does not sufficiently protect adults against pulmonary tuberculosis. Recent studies in nonhuman primates show that intravenous BCG administration offers superior protection against (). We used single-cell analysis of bronchoalveolar lavage cells from rhesus macaques vaccinated via different routes and doses of BCG to identify alterations in the immune ecosystem in the airway following vaccination.

(Mis)estimation of the modal number of desired sexual partners.

Misperceptions of the social world can lead to actions and social policy that are detrimental to an individual's or group's well-being. Here we investigate whether misperceptions arise when participants make predictions of the modal number of ideal future sexual partners reported by heterosexual cohorts (younger cohort: 18-23 years; older cohort: 24-29 years). For both men and women and in both cohorts, the modal number of reported partners equaled 1.

Impact of socioeconomic and geographical factors on clinical care of biliary atresia patients: a cross-sectional study.

Purpose: Biliary atresia (BA) is a critical pediatric condition requiring timely intervention through Kasai portoenterostomy (KPE), and up to two-thirds of patients need liver transplantation (LT). The outcomes for BA patients still need improvement in low- and middle-income countries. This study aims to assess the socioeconomic and geographical profile of BA patients in India, focusing on their compliance with follow-up care, treatment-seeking behaviour, and acceptability of LT in addition, it provides recommendations to overcome identified challenges.

Potential of right ventricular function assessment with echocardiography in transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

Background: Right ventricular (RV) function assessment by echocardiography can be challenging due to its complex morphology. Also, increasing use of sedation rather than general anesthesia for transfemoral approach transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) reduces the need for intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). Recent clinical studies have demonstrated the importance of 3-dimensional (3D) echocardiography and a longitudinal strain for RV function assessment.

Patterns of the left thalamus embedding into the connectome associated with reading skills in children with reading disabilities.

We examined how thalamocortical connectivity structure reflects children's reading performance. Diffusion-weighted MRI at 3 T and a series of reading measures were collected from 64 children (33 girls) ages 8-14 years with and without dyslexia. The topological properties of the left and right thalamus were computed based on the whole-brain white matter network and a hub-attached reading network, and were correlated with scores on several tests of children's reading and reading-related abilities.

Ultrasound transducer disinfection for percutaneous procedures: A review of the evidence supporting guideline recommendations.

Introduction/purpose: There are varying international recommendations regarding the minimum level of disinfection required for ultrasound transducers used in percutaneous procedures. While some guidelines recommend high-level disinfection (HLD), others question the additional benefit this delivers over low-level disinfection (LLD).

Methods: This narrative review identifies current guidelines and evaluates the evidence used to support disinfection recommendations for ultrasound transducers used in percutaneous procedures.

Fostering children's creativity through LLM-driven storytelling with a social robot.

Creativity is an important skill that is known to plummet in children when they start school education that limits their freedom of expression and their imagination. On the other hand, research has shown that integrating social robots into educational settings has the potential to maximize children's learning outcomes. Therefore, our aim in this work was to investigate stimulating children's creativity through child-robot interactions.
