Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluates the clinical features and outcomes of acute cannabis toxicity versus acute synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonist toxicity in European emergency departments from 2013-2020.
  • Using data from the European Drug Emergencies Network Plus, researchers analyzed 2,657 cases of cannabis exposure and 503 cases of synthetic cannabinoid exposure to compare their effects.
  • The findings indicate that synthetic cannabinoid exposures are linked to more severe neuropsychiatric symptoms, while cannabis exposures are associated with cardiovascular issues.

Article Synopsis
  • The research aimed to assess how specific beta-adrenergic receptor antagonists affect bowel motility following abdominal surgery in a rat model of postoperative ileus.
  • Male rats underwent surgical procedures, and their bowel motility was measured by tracking the transit of Evans blue dye, with various adrenergic blockers administered beforehand.
  • Results showed that propranolol improved bowel motility at certain doses, whereas other selective adrenergic antagonists did not have a significant effect, suggesting the benefit of propranolol may stem from its membrane-stabilizing properties rather than its receptor-blocking effects.

The effects of various statins on platelet aggregation in blood samples from normal and diabetic rabbits were measured. All of the statins used in our study inhibited platelet aggregation by about 20% at 1 microM. Our results show that diabetes increased the rate of platelet aggregation from 48 +/- 5% to 72 +/- 8%, however, statins inhibited the rate of platelet aggregation by about 60% (p < 0.
