Groundwater quality in the drought-prone Thakurgaon District, Northwestern Bangladesh, is deteriorating due to a combination of natural and anthropogenic factors. This study evaluates the key drivers of groundwater quality degradation by employing ecotoxicological risk indices, such as the Heavy Metal Pollution Index (HPI), Heavy Metal Evaluation Index (HEI), and Nemerow's Pollution Index (NPI). An innovative fuzzy logic approach is used to integrate these indices and reduce uncertainty, while Automatic Linear Modeling (ALM) predicts the primary impacts on the Fuzzy Groundwater Quality Index (FGWQI).

Diversity-generating retroelements (DGRs) create massive protein sequence variation (up to 10) in ecologically diverse microorganisms. A recent survey identified around 31,000 DGRs from more than 1,500 bacterial and archaeal genera, constituting more than 90 environment types. DGRs are especially enriched in the human gut microbiome and nano-sized microorganisms that seem to comprise most microbial life and maintain DGRs despite reduced genomes.

Dimethyldichlorosilane (DMDCS), an efficient silane coupling reagent appearing between the -OH groups of silica gel (SG) and picric acid, instantaneously produces a derivative enriched with nitro groups. The nitro group acting as an end-cap terminates the reaction and subsequently was converted into diazo to couple tyrosine's phenol ring via its -carbon, the inert center to immobilize horseradish peroxidase (HRP) in a multipoint mode. Huntington's disease (HD) and spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) are the two most prevalent polyglutamine (polyQ) neurodegenerative diseases, caused by CAG (encoding glutamine) repeat expansion in the coding region of the huntingtin (HTT) and ataxin-3 (ATXN3) proteins, respectively. We have earlier reported that the activity, but not the protein level, of an essential DNA repair enzyme, polynucleotide kinase 3'-phosphatase (PNKP), is severely abrogated in both HD and SCA3 resulting in accumulation of double-strand breaks in patients' brain genome. While investigating the mechanistic basis for the loss of PNKP activity and accumulation of DNA double-strand breaks leading to neuronal death, we observed that PNKP interacts with the nuclear isoform of 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase fructose-2,6-bisphosphatase 3 (PFKFB3).

The rice, like other plants, undergoes photoprotection mode by increasing nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ) in high light intensity (> 1200 µmol ms PPFD), which attenuates photosystem II yield (φPSII) drastically. The plant remains in photoprotection mode even after light intensity becomes not stressful for an extended period. While there are significant differences in the time it takes for photoprotection to recover among different genotypes, its use is limited in plant breeding because measuring the chlorophyll fluorescence parameters in progressive actinic light after dark adaptation takes more than forty-five minutes per genotype.

The IκB Kinase (IKK) complex, containing catalytic IKK2 and noncatalytic NEMO subunits, plays essential roles in the induction of transcription factors of the NF-κB family.
