Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is the gold standard treatment for large kidney stones. Recent advancements in endoscopic technology and operative techniques have significantly increased the success rate of PCNL while reducing associated complications and morbidity. A key development contributing to this progress is the introduction of various new lithotripter techniques, which facilitate rapid stone fragmentation and clearance.

Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) are a group of developing countries with shared economic, healthcare, and scientific interests. These countries navigate multiple syndemics, and the COVID-19 pandemic placed severe strain on already burdened BRICS' healthcare systems, hampering effective pandemic interventions. Genomic surveillance and molecular epidemiology remain indispensable tools for facilitating informed pandemic intervention.

This work investigates the dynamics of the hybrid nanofluidic convective heat transfer in a permeable thermal system under the influence of multifrequency heating and a magnetic field. The geometry comprises a wavy-walled cavity filled with a water-based hybrid nanoliquid (AlO-Cu-HO) in a saturated porous medium. The finite volume approach is applied to scrutinize the hydro-thermal characteristics resulting from bottom heating and side cooling, considering various flow-controlling parameters.

The signaling pathways behind severe astrocytic lysis with Aquaporin4 auto-antibody (AQP4-IgG) seropositivity, and reactive astrocytosis with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein auto-antibody (MOG-IgG) seropositivity, remain largely unexplored in Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), while almost no molecular details being known about double-seronegative (DN) patients. Recent discovery of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in DN NMOSD patients' cerebrospinal fluid, akin to AQP4-IgG + ve cases, suggests astrocytopathy. Here, we aim to study small non coding RNA (sncRNA) signature alterations in astrocytes exposed to AQP4-IgG + ve and MOG-IgG + ve patient sera, and their potential resemblance with DN-NMOSD.

Article Synopsis
  • * This study investigates using soybean peroxidase as a sustainable method to break down sulfonamides like sulfamethoxazole and sulfamerazine, finding optimal conditions for their removal.
  • * The experiments showed a significant reduction of these drugs, with half-lives of just under 0.1 minutes, and identified new chemical products formed through the process, such as oxidative dimers and azo compounds.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive genetic neuromuscular disorder that is characterized by gradual muscle weakness and atrophy due to the degeneration of alpha motor neurons that are present on the anterior horn of the spinal cord. Despite the comprehensive investigations conducted by global scientists, effective treatments or interventions remain elusive. The time- and resource-intensive nature of the initial stages of drug research underscores the need for alternate strategies like drug repurposing.

Objective: The study aimed at designing a pH sensitive Lipid polymeric Hybrid nanoparticle (LPHNP) for targeted release of Paclitaxel (PTX) and Curcumin (CUR) in breast cancer.

Significance: Such systems shall result in controlled triggered release in acidic microenvironment of tumor cells with improved pharmacokinetic profile.

Methods: Chitosan-coated CUR and PTX coloaded pH-sensitive LPHNPs were synthesized employing nanoprecipitation technique.

The aggressiveness of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is primarily due to lack of effective early detection biomarkers. Circulating non-coding RNAs serve as diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers in multiple types of cancer. Comparison of their expression between diseased tissue and relevant body fluids such as saliva, urine, bile, pancreatic juice, blood etc.

Drug repurposing in cancer taps into the capabilities of existing drugs, initially designed for other ailments, as potential cancer treatments. It offers several advantages over traditional drug discovery, including reduced costs, reduced development timelines, and a lower risk of adverse effects. However, not all drug classes align seamlessly with a patient's condition or long-term usage.

In Bangladesh, groundwater, the principal source of drinking water, contains predominantly high levels of iron. Drinking groundwater is associated with good iron status in populations. Against this backdrop, iron supplementation is often associated with side effects, which reduces its intake compliance.

Background: Precancerous and malignant tumours arise within the oral cavity from a predisposed "field" of epithelial cells upon exposure to carcinogenic stimulus. This phenomenon is known as "Field Cancerization". The molecular genomic and transcriptomic alterations that lead to field cancerization and tumour progression is unknown in Indian Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients.

Monocyte-derived macrophages recruited to injured tissues induce a maladaptive fibrotic response characterized by excessive production of collagen by local fibroblasts. Macrophages initiate this programming via paracrine factors, but it is unknown whether reciprocal responses from fibroblasts enhance profibrotic polarization of macrophages. We identify macrophage-fibroblast crosstalk necessary for injury-associated fibrosis, in which macrophages induced interleukin 6 ( ) expression in fibroblasts via purinergic receptor P2rx4 signaling, and IL-6, in turn, induced arginase 1 ( ) expression in macrophages.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) drives cervical cancer (CaCx) pathogenesis and viral oncoproteins jeopardize global gene expression in such cancers. In this study, our aim was to identify differentially expressed coding (DEcGs) and long noncoding RNA genes (DElncGs) specifically sense intronic and Natural Antisense Transcripts as they are located in the genic regions and may have a direct influence on the expression pattern of their neighbouring coding genes. We compared HPV16-positive CaCx patients (N = 44) with HPV-negative normal individuals (N = 34) by employing strand-specific RNA-seq and determined the relationships between DEcGs and DElncGs and their clinical implications.

As extreme precipitation intensifies under climate change, traditional risk models based on the '100-year return period' concept are becoming inadequate in assessing real-world risks. In response, this nationwide study explores shifting extremes under non-stationary warming using high-resolution data across the contiguous United States. Results reveal pronounced variability in 100-year return levels, with Coastal and Southern regions displaying the highest baseline projections, and future spikes are anticipated in the Northeast, Ohio Valley, Northwest, and California.

Background Periodontitis has a vital role in eliciting a cross-reactivity or systemic inflammatory response, making periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) a primary contributor to the inflammatory burden posed by periodontitis. PISA helps in the quantification of the amount of inflamed periodontal tissue. However, the existing literature data concerning PISA as an indicator of inflammatory burden are scarce, with limited research on the relationship between systemic inflammatory markers and PISA.
