Extreme value theory provides a direct means to characterize the distribution of high emitters within a vehicle fleet and calculate statistical confidence intervals for comparisons. Defining a "high emitter" as the maximum emitter in a random sample of N vehicles implies in the limit of large N that high emitters follow an extreme value distribution, comprised of three distinct domains. The analysis of over twenty years of roadside remote sensing emissions measurements in Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles and Tulsa reveals clear differences between gasoline vehicle high emitter distributions across pollutants (hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and nitric oxide (NO)), but very similar behavior across the four cities.

The adaptor protein tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 3 (TRAF3) is a multifaceted regulator of lymphocyte biology that plays key roles in modulation of the molecular signals required for T-cell activation and function. TRAF3 regulates signals mediated by the T-cell receptor (TCR), costimulatory molecules, and cytokine receptors, which each drive activation of the serine/threonine kinase Akt. The impact of TRAF3 upon TCR-CD28-mediated activation of Akt, and thus on the diverse cellular processes regulated by Akt, including CD4 T-cell fate decisions, remains poorly understood.

To increase pollinator populations, international policy targets minimum levels of seminatural habitat cover, but it is unknown whether improving the quality of existing habitats could bring similar benefits without the need of reducing cropland area. Using data we collected in 26 Italian agricultural landscapes during the entire flying season, we explored the relative importance of habitat quantity (seminatural habitat cover) and quality (flower availability) on pollinator densities in seminatural habitats. We obtained transect-based counts and estimated the effect of habitat quantity (proportion of seminatural habitat) and quality (flower cover and richness) on wild bee and hoverfly densities.

Consequently CD4Foxp3 regulatory T cells (Tregs) in mice have mostly been characterized using CD4CD25 T cells or GFP-Foxp3 reporter T cells. Three-dimensionally printed phantoms are increasingly used in medical imaging and research due to their cost-effectiveness and customizability, offering valuable alternatives to commercial phantoms. The purpose of this study was to assess the computed tomography (CT) attenuation characteristics of 27 resin materials from Formlabs, a 3D printing equipment and materials manufacturer. Cube phantoms (both solid and hollow constructions) produced with each resin were subjected to CT scanning under varying tube current-time products with attenuation measurements recorded in Hounsfield units (HU).

Sepsis, an amplified immune response to systemic infection, is characterized by a transient cytokine storm followed by chronic immune dysfunction. Consequently, sepsis survivors are highly susceptible to newly introduced infections, suggesting sepsis can influence the function and composition of the naïve CD8 T cell pool and resulting pathogen-induced primary CD8 T cell responses. Thyroglossal duct cyst is the most common congenital neck mass, but the incidence of malignancy within a thyroglossal duct cyst is rare, estimated at 1%. Most cancers arising within thyroglossal duct cysts are incidentally detected after surgical excision. We present the preoperative radiologic findings of 8 patients with papillary thyroid cancer arising within a thyroglossal duct cyst, as evaluated on ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and positron emission tomography scan.
