All attosecond time-resolved measurements have so far relied on the use of intense near-infrared laser pulses. In particular, attosecond streaking, laser-induced electron diffraction and high-harmonic generation all make use of non-perturbative light-matter interactions. Remarkably, the effect of the strong laser field on the studied sample has often been neglected in previous studies.

Background: The association of substance use disorders (SUD) with attention-deficit disorder (ADHD), co-morbid mental disorders, and medication has only been studied in isolation and in rather small samples.

Procedure: Data were based on four Danish national registers covering a total of 20,742 patients with ADHD, their dispensed medications, co-morbid mental disorders, and associated SUD between 1994 and 2010. The analyses considered the risk of various medications (methylphenidate only, antidepressants only, antipsychotic only, mixed medication) in comparison to a control group of non-medicated patients with ADHD, various co-morbid disorders, duration of medication, age at diagnosis, year of birth, and sex for developing SUD.

Background: This nationwide register-based study investigates how often obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD) with different age at diagnosis occur in affected families compared to control families. Furthermore, the study addresses the impact of certain risk factors, that is, sex, degree of urbanization, year of birth, and maternal and paternal age at birth.

Methods: A total of N = 2,057 child and adolescent psychiatric subjects born between 1952 and 2000 and registered in the Danish Psychiatric Central Research Register developed OCD before the age of 18.

Experiments in the gas phase usually involve averaging observables over a random molecular axis alignment distribution. This deleterious averaging limits insights gained by probes of molecular dynamics, but can be overcome by prealigning molecular axes using laser-alignment methods. However, the transformation from the laboratory frame to the molecular frame of reference requires quantitative knowledge of the axis alignment distribution.

Objective: The analysis of time trends in dispensed prescriptions of psychotropic medications for children and adolescents in Denmark.

Method: The entire data set of the Danish prescription register covering stimulants, antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anxiolytics used in children and adolescents over a 15-year time span from 1996 to 2010 was analyzed. Both non-adjusted age-standardized prevalence rates and adjusted age-standardized prevalence rates considering the increase in patient numbers over time were calculated, and time trends were assessed based on 105908 patient-years.

Extensive preclinical research has focused at unravelling the underlying molecular mechanisms leading to depression and recovery. In this study, we investigated the quantitative changes in protein abundance in the ventral hippocampal granular cell layer. We compared different phenotypes from the chronic mild stress (CMS) model of depression using chronic administration with two selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), escitalopram and sertraline.

The aim of the present study was to identify potential biomarkers for depression in the search for novel disease targets and treatment regimens. Furthermore, the study includes a search for biomarkers involved in treatment resistance and stress resilience in order to investigate mechanisms underlying antidepressant drug refraction and stress-coping strategies. Depression-related transcriptomic changes in gene expression profiles were investigated in laser-captured microdissected (LCM) rat hippocampal granular cell layers (GCL) using the chronic mild stress (CMS) rat model of depression and chronic administration of two selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), escitalopram and sertraline.

We make use of an inhomogeneous electrostatic dipole field to impart a quantum-state-dependent deflection to a pulsed beam of OCS molecules, and show that those molecules residing in the absolute ground state, X(1)Σ(+), |00(0)0>, J = 0, can be separated out by selecting the most deflected part of the molecular beam. Past the deflector, we irradiate the molecular beam by a linearly polarized pulsed nonresonant laser beam that impulsively aligns the OCS molecules. Their alignment, monitored via velocity-map imaging, is measured as a function of time, and the time dependence of the alignment is used to determine the quantum state composition of the beam.

Several findings suggest a functional and anatomical differentiation along the dorso-ventral axis of the hippocampus. Lesion studies in rats have indicated that the dorsal hippocampus preferentially plays a role in spatial learning and memory, while the ventral hippocampus is involved in anxiety-related behaviors. Based on such findings our aim was to investigate the molecular differentiation along the dorso-ventral axis of the hippocampal granular cell layer of the rat dentate gyrus.

Random orientation of molecules within a sample leads to blurred observations of chemical reactions studied from the laboratory perspective. Methods developed for the dynamic imaging of molecular structures and processes struggle with this, as measurements are optimally made in the molecular frame. We used laser alignment to transiently fix carbon disulfide molecules in space long enough to elucidate, in the molecular reference frame, details of ultrafast electronic-vibrational dynamics during a photochemical reaction.
