Effects of Manual Therapy on Fascial Distortion Model in Adolescent Ankle Sprain: A Pilot Study.

Objectives: The present study aimed to assess the feasibility of investigating the effects of manual therapy on ankle functional muscle strength, static balance, and disability in adolescent patients with an ankle sprain.

Methods: The study was a nonrandomized prepost clinical feasibility trial. From September 2021 to February 2022, 31 patients with ankle sprain received manual therapy.

Prognostic Value of Baseline Serum Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines in Severe Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children.

Severe clinical manifestations of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) are associated with the dysregulation of immune response following SARS-CoV-2 infection. Therefore, we analyzed the levels of 10 selected cytokines at admission to estimate disease severity and to predict the length of hospitalization. In remission samples, these mediators were followed after intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatment before discharge.

Communicative health literacy and associated variables in nine European countries: results from the HLS survey.

Our study aimed to report on variables associated with communicative health literacy (COM-HL) in European adults. The HLS survey was conducted in 2019-2021 including nine countries which measured COM-HL by using a validated questionnaire (HLS-COM-P-Q6 with a score ranging from 0 to 100). Linear regression models were used to study variables associated with COM-HL globally (multilevel model with random intercepts and slopes and at country level) and in each country.

Background/objectives: Schools can play a key role in promoting health among adolescents, and Hungarian legislation gives them sufficient space to do so. In our study, we examined the impact of a multiyear school health promotion programme on pupils' health behaviour and well-being.

Methods: We carried out our investigation in an intervention and a control primary school in Hungary.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different light curing modes on the polymerization shrinkage of a bulk-fill composite and to evaluate the impact of two layering techniques on the cuspal deflection.

Methods: Nine different light curing modes were tested on bulk-fill composite samples in aluminum MOD cavities. Intensity, duration, and illumination distance were the factors that changed during the different curing modes.

Serosurveillance and the first detection of Bourbon virus RNA in a wildlife host.

Bourbon virus (BRBV) is an emerging pathogen that can cause severe and fatal disease in humans. BRBV is vectored by (lone star ticks), which are widely distributed across the central, southern, and eastern United States. Wildlife species are potentially important for the maintenance and transmission of BRBV, but little is known about which species are involved, and what other factors play a role in the exposure to BRBV.

Age-related shifts in mental health determinants from a deprived area in the European Union: informing the national healthy aging program of Hungary.

Mental disorders are among the leading causes of disability worldwide, disproportionately affecting older people. This study aims to assess the mental health of elderly individuals living in a deprived region of Hungary, and to identify and estimate the weight of different determinants of mental health across different age groups. A cross-sectional study was conducted with randomly selected samples of individuals (n = 860) aged 18 years and older in Northeast Hungary.

Gentrification drives patterns of alpha and beta diversity in cities.

While there is increasing recognition that social processes in cities like gentrification have ecological consequences, we lack nuanced understanding of the ways gentrification affects urban biodiversity. We analyzed a large camera trap dataset of mammals (>500 g) to evaluate how gentrification impacts species richness and community composition across 23 US cities. After controlling for the negative effect of impervious cover, gentrified parts of cities had the highest mammal species richness.

Trait variation in patchy landscapes: Morphology of spotted salamanders (Ambystoma maculatum) varies more within ponds than between ponds.

The influence of intraspecific trait variation on species interactions makes trait-based approaches critical to understanding eco-evolutionary processes. Because species occupy habitats that are patchily distributed in space, species interactions are influenced not just by the degree of intraspecific trait variation but also the relative proportion of trait variation that occurs within- versus between-patches. Advancement in trait-based ecology hinges on understanding how trait variation is distributed within and between habitat patches across the landscape.

Characterization of the genomes of cluster CT phages, Horseradish and Yummy.

The genomes of lytic, cluster CT phages, Horseradish and Yummy, are 45,764 and 45,878 bp in length, respectively, and each encodes 71 protein-coding genes. The genomes are identical in sequence with the exception of a 38-bp insertion/deletion in the minor tail protein, gp26.

Investigation of the relationship of general and digital health literacy with various health-related outcomes.

Background: Despite the growing number of health literacy surveys, we know little about the combined effect of the different dimensions of health literacy on various health-related outcomes.

Objective: Thus, our study aimed to examine the impacts of general and digital health literacy on health behaviour, confidence in vaccination, self-perceived health, and health care utilization.

Methods: Our research was part of the Health Literacy Population Survey 2019-2021, which was an international, multicentre, cross-sectional study.

Background: Roma are the largest and most disadvantaged minority in Europe, but there is few research on how mental health and social support of Roma people living in segregated settlements compares to the majority population. Our aim was to compare the subjective well-being, life satisfaction, mental status, and social support of representative samples of adults living in segregated settlements (colonies) and identifying as Roma with those of the general population in Hungary.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical and laboratory parameters that can predict the severity of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) at admission.

Methods: We conducted a single-center, partly retrospective, partly prospective, observational cohort study between November 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021, which included patients aged from 1 month to 19 years, meeting the diagnostic criteria of MIS-C. We categorized the patients into three subgroups based on clinical and laboratory markers and assessed the predictive value of these factors in terms of ICU administration and cardiac abnormalities.

Background: Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) and its most serious complication, acute kidney injury (AKI) are one of the emergency conditions in onco-hematology. Esophageal biomechanical studies are being performed to understand structural changes resulting from stretches during repair of esophageal atresias as well as to obtain biomechanical values for tissue-engineered esophagus. The present study offers insights into ultrastructural changes after stretching of the ovine esophagus using uniaxial stretch tests. In vitro uniaxial stretching was performed on esophagi (n = 16) obtained from the abattoir within 4-6 h of 1-month-old lambs.

The HLS-COM-P, a New Instrument for Measuring Communicative Health Literacy in Interaction with Physicians: Development and Validation in Nine European Countries.

Background: Sufficient communicative health literacy (COM-HL) is important for patients actively participating in dialogue with physicians, expressing their needs and desires for treatment, and asking clarifying questions. There is a lack of instruments combining communication and HL proficiency. Hence, the aim was to establish an instrument with sufficient psychometric properties for measuring COM-HL.

[Pyoderma gangrenosum of the breast – Case report].

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) of the breast is a rare, ulcerative disease of rapid onset normally associated with systemic disorders and triggered by surgery or trauma. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of this disease pose a real challenge. We present a case of a PG of the breast in a patient with associated diabetes mellitus, with minor triggering injury.

The role of urinary N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase in early detection of acute kidney injury among pediatric patients with neoplastic disorders in a retrospective study.
