Background: Standardized time allotments are typically imposed for administration of nursing tests. There is little evidence to guide the determination of time allotment. When time allotted for tests is too limited, construct irrelevant variance in test scores may be introduced and the reliability of tests may be negatively impacted.

Aim: The aim of this study was to describe nurse educators' use of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in testing in registered nurse licensure-qualifying nursing education programs in New York State.

Method: This study was a descriptive correlational analysis of data obtained from surveying 1,559 nurse educators; 297 educators from 61 institutions responded (response rate [RR] = 19 percent), yielding a final cohort of 200.

Results: MCQs were reported to comprise a mean of 81 percent of questions on a typical test.

The purpose of this paper was to describe an occupational therapy programme that addressed the needs of younger nuns as they faced the difficulties of caring for older nuns in a Dominican old-age home in South Africa. Weekly occupational therapy group sessions with the younger sisters over a 1-year period enabled them to cope with an elderly population who were struggling to adapt to life in an old-age home. Activity groups and individual sessions were run concurrently with the older sisters.

Objective: To assess the effect that cigarette legislation would have on reducing merchant sales rates of cigarettes to minors and the affect on adolescent smoking behavior.

Design: Observational survey of merchant selling behaviors and adolescent smoking habits before and after passage of legislation.

Setting: The setting for the merchant survey was Woodridge, Ill (population 25,200), a suburban community of Chicago.
