Manganese complexes [(arene)Mn(CO)] were prepared in one step from arenes and Mn(CO)Br. They were found to be efficient catalysts in the carbonyl cyanation with TMSCN, CO fixation by epoxides, and direct reductive amination in the presence of syngas. The amination reaction tolerated various reducible functional groups.

The traditional Eschweiler-Clarke reaction is a three-component process involving formaldehyde, amine, and formic acid. In this work, we showed that the reductive potential of formaldehyde was sufficient to provide methylation of secondary amines in the absence of acidic additives. Various acid-sensitive moieties remain intact under developed conditions.

Common and non-toxic aldehydes are proposed as reagents for alkylation of ketones instead of carcinogenic alkyl halides. The developed reductive alkylation reaction proceeds in the presence of the commercially available ruthenium catalyst [(cymene)RuCl ] (as low as 250 ppm) and carbon monoxide as the reducing agent. The reaction works well for a broad substrate scope, including aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes and ketones.

Cyclic mechanical stretching of the rabbit aortic smooth muscle cells induced a serum-independent increase in the h-caldesmon expression. The expression was more obvious in the cells grown on laminin. The data obtained suggests that the cyclic stretching specifically activates a serum- and matrix-independent expression of h-caldesmon.

The structure and properties of two novel regulatory proteins of nonmuscle cells and smooth muscles are reviewed. The localization of the "light" caldesmon isoform in nonmuscle cells and the involvement of this protein in the formation of cytoskeleton structures are described. A detailed description of the "heavy" caldesmon isoform and of localization of sites of caldesmon interaction with actin, tropomyosin, myosin and calmodulin, is given.

Immunofluorescent study of embryonal vessels of man using antibodies to myosin, desmin and vimentin showed heterogeneity of smooth muscle cells. It is supposed that the use of desmin as a marker of cell differentiation can increase the role of modified phenotypes in the development of the pathological process in the vascular wall.

In the work there was studied the influence of hepatic chalones on the level of mitotic activity and on the degree of adhesion of hepatocytes after the violation of parasympathetic and sympathetic innervation under the physiological conditions of liver function and in regenerating organ. Some definite regularities were revealed in the change of the power of linkage among the cells of liver parenchyma after the disturbance of its innervation and chalones affected. Significant differences in the effect of the influence of tissue inhibitors of proliferation on the process of regeneration in liver, which has intact or disturbed innervation were discovered.
