Background And Objectives: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are main cause of mortality and morbidity among women globally. Menopause, aging and different factors in collaboration leads to increased risk for CVDs among postmenopausal women but study on risk factors of CVDs among postmenopausal women is limited in Nepal. Therefore, we aimed to assess prevalence of behavioural and metabolic risk factors of cardiovascular disease among post-menopausal women.

Uniqueness of lung cancer in Southeast Asia.

Lung cancer varies between Caucasians and Asians. There have been differences recorded in the epidemiology, genomics, standard therapies and outcomes, with variations according to the geography and ethnicity which affect the decision for optimal treatment of the patients. To better understand the profile of lung cancer in Southeast Asia, with a focus on India, we have comprehensively reviewed the available data, and discuss the challenges and the way forward.

Metastatic Supraclavicular Lymph Nodes among Patients with Lung Carcinoma in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.

Introduction: Metastatic spread of lung cancer to supraclavicular lymph nodes is considered distant metastasis for treatment purposes. Detection of supraclavicular lymph node metastasis in patients with lung cancer serves for tissue diagnosis by itself and also helps avoid more invasive biopsy from the primary lung mass itself. Ultrasonography of the lower neck can detect supraclavicular lymph nodes before they are palpable and can also be used for safe sampling of these lymph nodes.

Dengue Fever in a Neonate: A Case Report.

Unlabelled: Dengue is one of the most common viral infections affecting the general population in endemic areas annually. However, it is barely reported in newborns owing to a widespread belief that they are protected from severe viral infections in the first six months of life by the presence of maternal antibodies. Here we present a case of a 23-day-old male infant born to primigravida with dengue fever with the post-natal transmission of infection.

Cardiovascular Risk Predictors High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein and Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 in Women with Lean Phenotype of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: A Prospective Case-Control Study.

 Accumulating evidence suggests increased cardiovascular risk in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) due to a cluster of factors, such as obesity, lipid abnormalities, impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and hypertension. Markers such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) can provide an adjunctive method for the assessment of cardiovascular risk and can indicate future coronary heart diseases in women with lean PCOS.  In this prospective case-control study, women clinically diagnosed with PCOS (  = 25) with normal body mass index (BMI) and age and BMI-matched healthy controls (  = 75) were enrolled.

Decarbonization in Biobanking: A Potential New Scientific Area.

Calls to reduce or entirely remove the carbon footprint of ongoing activities, collectively termed as decarbonization, have become increasingly more vocal in health care with a number of recent, high profile consensus statements. These calls encourage the biobanking field, as one of the foundational health care research infrastructures, to consider decarbonization as a potential novel research area both in terms of the molecules and the equipment used in research. Biobanking is a relatively newly recognized and innovative branch of science, which includes the collection of samples and associated data from hospitals, diagnostic centers, and voluntary donations for biomedical and environmental research. It involves diverse stakeholders at the junction of society, science, ethics, law, and politics. A key element in the success of a biobank is the trust and support of public donors, clinicians, and scientists.

A study on lipoprotein-a and PAI-1 in women with polycystic ovary syndrome.

Objectives: PCOS is the most common endocrinological disorder amongst women of reproductive age. The consequences of PCOS extend beyond the reproductive axis and may lead to the development of metabolic syndrome leading to a high risk for hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Determinants of severe acute malnutrition among under 5 children in Satar community of Jhapa, Nepal.

Background: Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) is the most extreme and visible form of undernutrition plagued by chronic poverty, household food insecurity, lack of education. One of the indigenous and marginalized community of Nepal, Satar/Santhal has often been neglected and is devoid of good education and are economically deprived. Diverse Responses of the Biobanks in Indo-Pacific Rim Region During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Case Scenarios from Two Low- and Middle-Income Countries and Two High-Income Countries in the Indo-Pacific Rim Region.

Biobankers have been unexpectedly involved in the pandemic of COVID-19 since early 2020. Although specific guidance was not available, the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) Best Practices and the ISO 20387 document have been utilized to deal with the pandemic disaster. The ISO experts and best practice experts in ISBER teamed up to share the available information and learn the experiences of biobanks concerning COVID-19 through organizing webinars, surveys, and town hall meetings.

Identification of drought stress-responsive genes in rice () by meta-analysis of microarray data.

Meta-analysis provides a systematic access to the previously studied microarray datasets that can recognize several commonsignatures of stresses. Three different datasets of abiotic stresses on rice were used for meta-analysis. These microarray datasets were normalized to regulate data for technical variation, as opposed to biological differences between the samples.

Comparison between shockpulse and pneumatic lithotripsy in percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

Purpose: To compare the effectiveness and safety of shockpulse with pneumatic lithotripsy in percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

Methods: A prospective randomized comparative study was performed in Department of Urology, Bir Hospital for 1-year duration with 61 patients in shockpulse (Group 1) and 58 patients in pneumatic lithoclast (Group 2) groups, respectively. Patient's demographics, stone characteristics, hemoglobin drop, hospital stay, operative duration, stone fragmentation time and postoperative complications were compared.

Interaction network analysis of YBX1 for identification of therapeutic targets in adenocarcinomas.

Human Y-box binding protein-1 (YBX1) is a member of highly conserved cold-shock domain protein family, which is involved in transcriptional as well as translational regulation of many genes. Nuclear localization of YBX1 has been observed in various cancer types and it's overexpression has been linked to adverse clinical outcome and poor therapy response, but no diagnostic or therapeutic correlation has been established so far. This study aimed to identify differentially expressed novel genes among the interactors of YBX1 in different cancer types.

Health needs and risky behaviours among inmates in the largest prison of eastern Nepal.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to assess the health status and risky behaviours of inmates in Nepal.

Design/methodology/approach: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Jhumka Regional Prison, the largest male prison in eastern Nepal from September 2014 to August 2015. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews from 434 randomly selected incarcerated participants using semi-structured questionnaires.

Biobanking initiatives to develop a national liver disease biobank facility in India.

Aim: India has a high hepatobiliary disease burden, yet very little research has been done in this field. A major roadblock in the translational research is the unavailability of quality biosamples with standardized clinical annotations. Having a national level biobank facility can circumvent the problem.
