Article Synopsis
  • Anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies are popular cancer treatments but can lead to acute kidney injury (AKI), prompting a study to analyze the incidence and risk factors associated with AKI in patients treated with these antibodies.
  • The study included 1,418 patients treated between January 2018 and December 2022, finding that 6.5% developed AKI, typically around 100 days post-treatment, with several risk factors identified including specific cancer types and medication use.
  • Recovery from AKI varied, with 7.6% fully recovering and 52.2% not recovering; this highlights the importance of monitoring kidney function closely in treated patients, particularly those with head and neck cancer.

Background: Renal anemia is a common complication in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Both roxadustat and recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) are alternative option for patients with renal anemia. However, the adverse events of rhEPO limited the wide use of it and the concrete difference of real clinical efficacy of rhEPO and roxadustat was still uncertain.

What Is Known And Objective: Patients with kidney disease receiving immunosuppressive drugs (ISDs) (tacrolimus, cyclosporine and glucocorticoids) have a high risk of developing new-onset diabetes mellitus (NODM). We aimed to establish a precise and convenient model for predicting NODM in patients receiving immunosuppressive drugs.

Methods: This retrospective study recruited 1883 patients receiving ISDs between January 2010 and October 2018.

Background: Idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) is the most common cause of nephrotic syndrome in adults. Although various studies have demonstrated the efficacy of tacrolimus combined with corticosteroids for treating IMN, both tacrolimus and corticosteroids have been shown to be diabetogenic, particularly following organ transplantation. Furthermore, the frequency and risk factors for new-onset diabetes mellitus (NODM) in IMN patients treated with tacrolimus plus low-dose corticosteroids remain unclear.
